Lesson Plan - Throwing/Handball
CONTEXT
Grade(s): 5/6 Class
Subject(s): Physical Education
Long-Term / Big - Proper throwing mechanics

GOALS
Curricular Gr. 5: Students demonstrate and adapt various movement patterns to

OVERALL INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES & LEARNING ACTIVITIES
1. Catch with a Partner
- Students find a partner and play catch using proper throwing mechanics
- Use the lines on the floor to indicate how far apart to be
2. Passing Warm-up Game
- Students get into pairs
- Each pair of students has to pass to each other while running down the
court
- The student with the ball must not move until they have thrown the ball (just
like Handball rules)
- If the ball is dropped, they have to restart

- Students can follow rules and play games as a team
Reflection:
- Students participated and performed the warm-up and mini games very well
- Students are developing catching and throwing skills and are becoming more skilled
- Students are still trying to figure out the strategy behind handball and how to play
offense and defence at the same time (more practice and they will understand it
better)
