Exam practice

This section covers the Trinity GESE Grade 3 exam.

On pages 28–45, there are two pages of practice tasks for each of the areas
of vocabulary (lexis) required for the exam. These pages also provide practice
of the communicative skills, language functions (including directions and
locations), and grammar needed for the exam.
On page 46, the tasks prepare candidates for exchanging greetings with the
examiner at the beginning of the exam.
On pages 47–48, there are question cards of some typical exam questions for
students to cut out and practise. They can reuse these cards several times to
help build their confidence.
These tasks can mostly be done as self-study, at home or in school. A few tasks
require students to ‘Tell a friend or family member’. For tasks with an audio
icon, the student will need to be able to use either a DVD player or a computer
to play the DVD-video. This DVD-video will not play in a CD player.

Exam overview

The Trinity GESE Grade 3 exam is an oral interview between candidate

and examiner. It is up to seven minutes and is designed to be a realistic
conversation to exchange information and opinions. To maintain the
conversation, the candidate is expected to ask the examiner questions. For
further information, please watch the exam simulation video and the exam
tips animation.
