business under its trademark
o Usually, they prefer to give to individuals over companies.

 Resource Theory
o Making money from other people’s money
 Mechanism for deeper market penetration
o Some parent companies prefer to have more franchisees than company-
owned business, so that they don’t have to employ so many people to
manage the businesses they own innately
 Reduces franchisee’s risk of business losses
o A franchise is already an established model.
 Healthy and strong franchisee-franchisor relationship (i.e. success of franchising).
o Establish a good relationship and communicate well with the franchisee.

Disadvantages of Franchising
 Agency Theory
o The owner’s goals might be different from those who run the day-to-day
