The Digital Transformation Challenge
Delivering with minimal time, risk and cost
Clients are challenged in modifying their aging
business-critical applications
Changes often rely on manual analysis and are
therefore error-prone, relying on few employees
with domain expertise
Applications are often poorly documented, Application
Understanding
resulting in increased risk and effort
Enterprise Assets Digital
Transformation
Sizing change effort is difficult if the
understanding of business-critical applications
is limited
Ramping up new hires to work effectively with
business-critical applications is often lengthy

Typical AD Analysis use cases
• Scenario 1 . Finding dead and unreferenced code in an • Scenario 8: Explore how a java project interacts with
application mainframe project
• Scenario 2: Maintenance and business as usual • Scenario 9: Modifying existing database tables to
(managing a code change) accommodate new business logic
• Scenario 3: Code Reviews • Scenario 10: Identify Business logic to be exposed as an
API
• Scenario 4: Working with 3rd party submissions • Scenario 11: Determine the impact of a data or logic
change
• Scenario 5: Onboarding new developers and reduce
learning curve • Scenario 12: Understanding a CICS implementation
• Scenario 6: Root cause analysis of a software defect or
data corruption • Scenario 13: Understanding an IMS implementation
• Scenario 7: Analyze an application for maintainability

IBM AD
Architecture
Integration with z/OS Connect EE V3 – API impact analysis
• Improved graphical view (as observed in
the Figures) of the relationships between
the application’s technical components
and the APIs/related services (defined by
IBM z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition) -
Assist developers to modify an application
with greater confidence.
• For each API or service, you can discover
which applications implement the API
business logic,
• A detailed call graph of the API business
logic implementation down to the
program, table and file level.

DevOps What’s next
• The right tools for multi-stream, continuous integration / delivery do not all exist in the mainframe world.
• Existing Library Managers do not allow full parallel development.
• Access to Open Source tools to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) in z / OS remains difficult.
• Open source tools like GIT, Jenkins and Artifactory are becoming the de facto standard for powering Continuous Delivery in the enterprise.
• Traditional “Library Managers” in mainframe are expensive : why not take advantage of Open Source solutions which bring both cost saving
and increased agility?
• Must take into account certain specifics of the z / OS environment, particularly build techniques.
