BLACKOUT BACKGROUND INFO

The play Blackout is a play based novel written by Davey Anderson it’s about a boy
who gets bullied into becoming a different person a vicious person,he loses the
people he loves because of the way person he turned out to be.

THEMES IN BLACKOUT
Growth is one of the main themes in the play called Blackout by David Anderson.
There was a young boy called James, he lived with his Mother. James got bullied in
school which caused him to struggle with growing up, his father wasn't there in his
life but his grandfather became more like a father to James. James grew up and had
a rough time with his school.

Casting/multi-rolling

In the role as a Mum Carrie Rock demonstrates her growth in her character as
James’s Mum,in the play where she tells james that his grandpa is dead it was
tragic scene in stage 6 she had tears in her eyes,voice breaks and her shoulders
were slumped as her emotions were fear and drained as she has lost a loved one this
makes her scared to tell james the news has him and his grandfather had a beautiful
relationship,she's finding it hard to get the right words out which she goes into
stage 7 to tell james about the tragic new about his grandfather the audience
reactions were shock as they recall a death of a loved one empathize with the
character.

Carrie Rock role as one of the bullies demonstrates,she shows the audience her
changing her role from the mom to the bullies and putting on stage 5 of tension
suspense and the reactive her body is tense as her fist is tight together ready to
fight [Link] getting pressured as the bully voice changes and posture
changes,puts her hood up as james moves backwards and she moves forwards.

The character James played by Cameron Crighton, james when he found out about his
grandpa passing he expressed his emotion in stage (tragic) his body can't move,its
like hes paralyzed he falls on his knees as he bursts out crying shouting,his body
is heated and every part hurts .His grandpa was like father to him. The regret in
him as he didnt get to go visit him for the last time ,he went into stage 6 hes
feeling all types of emotions and finding it hard to control his self

STAGE MANAGEMENT
They makes sure the props and the sounds are working properly,their story is them
being in jail,the synergy company came to perform for them they really enjoyed it a
lot so when they got out they offered them a job ever since then they love what
they do

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
He used to be an actor but his story is similar to the character James in the play
that’s why he can relate to him so much so he got introduced to drama that was his
was of being accepted for who he was,he learned how to read properly and got to
experience different characters and not having to be his self
TECHNICAL CREW
They all get involved and become a big community they make sure the lights are
working ,props are not broken and checking if it’s safe for the actors to be on the
[Link] growth from this has been big as they can really relate to the story.
