Welcome to the JAZZ Preferential Bidding System, without

exception, the best pilot scheduling system available. The
information included in this package is for line pilots bidding
their monthly schedule.

The SSC (System Scheduling Committee) Block Builder is also
responsible for the scheduling of all training and ground
school. Training sessions are numbered and pilots may bid on
a specific training session, that is, you bid training in
conjunction with your monthly flying to maximize the quality of
your schedule. The Company determines and publishes who
must attend training and CRM in any given month. Should
there be more than one CRM session in the month you will be
able to bid to attend a specific one. However, the Company
and or Block Builder may assign a training session for reasons
of CARs compliance or vacation conflicts.

Bids, Bids, Bids….
Each month there are up to four items a pilot may need to bid
through Jazzbid. To simplify the process there is a specific
section in Jazzbid for all bids that need to go to your Jazz
Company Crew Planner, the JAZZ MENU. The ALPA MENU is
for your monthly schedule bid and only goes to your ALPA
Block Builder.

Open Vacation Bid
Each month there is a list of vacation weeks open for bidding
as pilots change rosters, drop vacation, go on leave or leave
the company. An updated listing of the open weeks is
available on [Link] .

the same bid will stand with the Crew Planner until you
remove it or the Vacation week dates have passed.

To bid, log on to Jazzbid and go to the JAZZ MENU - Open

Vacation. Click edit to fill out the Open Vacation Bid Form.
Awards will be posted on Jazznet by the 5th.

The bid package shows when a line check pairing is required.

 Submit your bid to your Block Builder via Jazzbid or email by
the 14th at 09:00 local.

Completed schedules published by the 23rd at 17:00 local.

General
Bid your monthly schedule via Jazzbid or email. Each Block
Builder will have their email address available on Jazzbid or the
ALPA website. If you bid via email, expect a reply from the
Block Builder by the 14th. The normal maximum blocking
average is 82.5 credits. You may see the blocking average as
high as 87.5 credits with a blocking window of between 85 to
90 credits. Please bid accordingly.

Note: Any credits over

85 are overtime
credits.

Jazzbid
The SSC operates Jazzbid, not the Company. There are two
sections for bidding: one section for regular monthly bids,
submitted to your Block Builder and the other section for
Annual Line Check bids, LTC Check A/B indoctrination bids
and Open Vacation Bids, submitted to your Crew Planner.

Access Jazzbid here. Log in and fill out each section of the web
interface.

Your username is your employee number and your password

is your date of birth, for example: April 10, 1978 = 19780410. If
desired, you may change your password after the first login.

Remember to log Jazzbid is designed as if using an FMS head and most sections
out of your session are self-explanatory. A video is available on the login page to
help you get started. A preference page is available that
contains important notification options that you can tailor to
your personal needs. Please take the time to set these
preferences.

Jazzbid is the preferred method for bidding, sending your bid

gives your Block Builder important automatic features not
available with an email bid. There is a copy automatically
stored on the server. Your bid is always there should you wish
to change it during the bid window. You can save a copy of
your current bid as a default that you can bring up the
following month as a template. You can send yourself a
confirmation.

Type of flying:

• USA or Canada.

• Afternoon or morning, high credit or low credit.

• One, 2, 3 or 4-day pairings and or preferred

overnight destinations.

• Life style issues: “Prefer no back to back long days”

or ”Prefer at least 14 hours rest at home base” or
“minimum 1 day off between pairings.”

Reserve

You may bid RSE (0300 to 1700), RSA (0600 to 2000) or RSB
(1600 to 0600). The Company can alter these times as shown in
the bid package. Reserve days will not normally be assigned
less than two (2) at a time.

Generic (standing) bid

Sent to your block builder. Should you fail to bid your

schedule, a generic bid is not intended to be an addition to
your monthly bid. A generic bid is an emergency backup to
your regular bid.

VAC/STT Days and VAC/STAT

• Vacation (VAC) and Stat (STT) weeks are comprised of

the following: 5 VAC days plus 2 SDOs or 5 STT days
plus 2 SDOs.

• VAC/STT days are worth 4 credits each for a total of

20 credits per VAC/STT week.

• You must have a minimum of 3 VAC or STAT in order

to qualify for GDO’s.

Convert to Credit VCI/STI:

You have the option to turn in a Vacation or Stat week and

receive the credit instead, allowing more flexibility in building
your schedule. You can bid for flying that would have
otherwise been unavailable due to the placement of your
VAC/STAT. You can convert only entire weeks of VAC/STAT,
including weeks that carry from one month to the next and
the credit is split between the two bid periods.

If you are on reserve, the minimum days off is 12, plus your
VAC/STAT days. If a Block Holder with one week of VAC/STAT
in the month that you have chosen to convert to credit, your
minimum number of days off is 12. The credit will be
contained in a single moveable VCI/STI code day on the first
available day of your schedule. You may request this through
your Crew Planner ahead of the bid or simply bid it with your
Block Builder as a bid preference.

Supplemental Days Off (SDOs):

Have no credit value and are part of your minimum 12 days

off per month. Ask your Block-Builder to remove your SDOs if
they interfere with your desired bid.

 You may move the SDOs to the front of your VAC or STAT
days for added flexibility.

Guaranteed Days Off (GDOs):

• Three (3) GDOs are attached to an existing period of

VAC/STT.
• A VAC/STT period refers to a period of VAC or STAT
of at least three (3) successive days.
• If the VAC/STT period spans a month end, you may
only bid three (3) GDOs.
• Bid your GDOs at the beginning, end or split on
either end of your VAC/STT period.
• GDOs have no credit and are part of your minimum
12 days off per month.
• GDO next (+1, +2, +3), reminds your Block Builder to not
assign a pairing that would carry out to the next month
where it would affect GDO placement with next month’s
VAC/STAT. When you use this function in Jazzbid, or notify
via your block builder via email, you must re-bid the GDO’s
in the following month.

 Preferential Days Off PDOs:

• You are entitled to four (4) PDOs per year.

• Bid PDOs via Jazzbid. No email or after the bid closes

requests for PDOs will be considered. Late PDO requests are
not accepted.

• PDOs cannot be used as an “if required” bid.

• PDO requests are permanent; you may not back out
of your PDO request.
• The Jazz MEC publishes a list of PDO, STAT/VAC
MOVE restricted dates each year; this list is available
on the MEC Website, Jazznet and Jazzbid.
• Either one PDO or two (2) attached PDOs per month.
Do not “split” PDOs.
• PDOs have no credit and are part of your minimum
12 days off per month.

Minimum Monthly Pay Guarantee

A Block Holder Minimum Monthly Pay Guarantee (MMPG) is

your scheduled credits for the month.

Reserve pilots MMPG is the blocking average for the month.

IMPORTANT – If the block builder is unable to build to

the bottom of the blocking window, such as a scenario
where a pilot’s VAC/STAT plus PDO/GDO equals 70
credits, the pilot’s MMPG will be the credit level as
built. In the case of a reserve pilot, the MMPG is
reduced by 4.5 hours for each reserve day that cannot
be scheduled.

 STAT/VAC Move:

Warning: STAT
moves cannot be
combined with PDOs. • You may move two STATS or VAC (from later in the
year) into any current month, except during MEC
published restricted dates. This list is available on the
MEC Website, Jazznet and Jazzbid.
• STAT/VAC moves may only be requested either 1 per
month, or 2 attached per month.
• STAT/VAC moves should be coordinated with Jazz
crew planning before the bid deadline (14th @
09:00). You must have STATS available later in the
year in order to move them.
• STATS/VAC have a value of 4 credits and are in
addition to your minimum 12 days off.
• Reduced Blocks, Low/High Block Window RTB, LBW,
HBW:
• Offered by the Company throughout the year,
reduced Time Blocks (RTB) are bid with Crew
Planning. Find awarded RTBs in the bid pack.
• Offered by the Company throughout the year. Bid a
LBW when it is available, as shown on the front page
of the Bid Pack.
• Offered by the Company throughout the year. You
can bid a HBW when it is available, as shown on the
front page of the Bid Pack.

 Time Bank TBB:

• Time Bank availability shown in the bid package.

The image below shows the blocking average as 77.5

credits for YYC CRJ CA and 79.0 for CRJ FO.

A Low Blocking Window – 10 @ 62.5 credits for CA and

NIL for FO.

100 Credits of Time Bank are available for CA and 65:00

credits available for FO.

You may bid as much time bank as you wish; however, the
Block Builders award the time bank as follows:

• Only 10 hours assigned at a time until the full roster has a

chance to bid for time bank. On every subsequent time
through the roster, a maximum of 10 hours is awarded. For
example, if a pilot bids for 30 hours of time bank, this would
take 3 times through the roster, allowing other pilots a

 chance to bid for time bank. If there is time bank available,
the block builder will award the full 30 credits.

• Your Block Builder can only assign an amount that will bring
you to the bottom of the blocking window. You bid 10 hours
of time bank stipulating “ALL” and the bottom of the
blocking window is 80 credits, your Block Builder will build
your flying as close as possible to 70 credits then add
whatever amount of time bank is required to bring you to
exactly 80 credits.

Fatigue Units (FUs)

Continuous Duties (CDs)

Annual Recurrent Line Check

The Bid Pack contains both the current month’s line check
roster and a line check pre-bid roster that indicates if you are

due for a line check in the following month. Please check this
roster and enter a bid with crew planning prior to the fifth of
the month that you are due for your line check.

If you place a line check bid, your recurrent line check is pre-
assigned on your line by Crew Planning. If you do not place a
bid, there will be a list of available line check pairings for you
to bid on during the current monthly bid. Your bid should
include the group number assigned to your choice of line
check pairings.

Limitations:
• The maximum number of days in a row you can be
scheduled is six, unless waived by the pilot. Waiving
the six days increases your scheduling flexibility. If
you choose to waive this, CARs rules and FUs become
a factor in awarding days in a row.

• Minimum days off is 12; however, a pilot may waive

this to either 10 or 11 days off in order to help
increase their schedule flexibility.
• The minimum time off between pairings is 12 hours,
which you can waive to 11 hours.

• No pilot is scheduled for more than 40 hours hard

time in 7 days or 120 hours hard time in 30 days.

• Keep your seniority level in mind when bidding pairings.

• Avoid statements such as: “no long breaks”, “finished in

some city at some time”, “pairings with long layovers”, “no
flights to a specific city”, “pairings that start with a deadhead
to some city”, “no Deadheads” etc. All of these very general
statements require the Block Builder to open up each
individual pairing and manually filter them. This is very time
consuming. Instead, try finding and listing the pairings that
work well for you.

• Avoid using the word “no” unless you mean it. Bidding “no”

The SSC, not the Company, will deal with any complaints about
the schedules. If you feel your schedule is in error, first contact
your Block-Builder. If after discussing it with your Block-Builder,
you are not satisfied, please contact either Scott Jensen
[Link]@[Link] or Rob Toncic [Link]@[Link]. If
you are still unsatisfied, you may contact your LEC or MEC
directly.
I know that we speak for all the Block-Builders when we say
that every month we strive to create blocks that give each pilot
the days off and/or type of flying requested. However, the
level of schedule satisfaction is directly related to how realistic
the pilot is in his or her bidding expectations. In other words, if
you are junior on an equipment roster do not bid as if you
were number one. Also, bear in mind what your Block Builder
has to work with. We all know pairing quality can change
drastically from month to month. Block Builders do not create
pairings, we simply assign what the Company publishes each
month.
