GROUP ASSIGNMENT
Instructions:
1. Elect a leader to manage effort, distribute task and ensure delivery.
2. Prepare an assignment in your respective group based on your understanding from the
course. Use at maximum whatever methodology tools (SEM matrix, Gantt chart etc.) and
format given.
3. Present your assignment on day-5, afternoon session. Every group will be given 15 minutes
to present. There will be question and answer session for every presentation. Presentation
after the time limit shall not be considered by panel of evaluator. Plan your presentation to
meet the timing and show team work during the presentation session.
4. Select one actual site to be a reference case for your assignment.
5. Group member who didn’t contribute or deliver the task given after sufficient
reminders/follow-up, may be punished by collective decision of the group members.
TOPICS
Topic 1: Application for 1-Star EMGS certification
Your organization have received notification from Suruhanjaya Tenaga to comply to EMEER 2008. The
organization that you are appointed as an energy manager has successfully developed Sustainable
Energy Management System (SEMS) within reasonable period specified. The mission now is to apply
for 1-Star Energy Management Gold Standard (EMGS) certification. You are required to prepare a
presentation to your management to apply for 1-Star EMGS certification.
Your presentation should include the followings:
- Energy Management matrix.
- Preliminary audit.
- Complete the EMGS checklist for 1-Star certification.
- Company background.
- SEMS setup (Energy Management Committee (EMC), Energy Management Matrix, Energy
Policy, Building Energy Index (BEI) / Energy Efficiency Index (EEI), Energy Reduction Target
etc.).
- Achievements (activities completed, Energy Cost Saving etc.).
- Action taken to comply with EMEER 2008.

Topic 2: Proposal to implement SEMS in your organisation
As an Energy Manager for your company, which falls under EMEER 2008, you are required to prepare
a proposal to the top management on the current situation and your SEMS plan to achieve 3-Star
Energy Management Gold Standard (EMGS). As a start, prepare the Energy Management (EM) matrix
to reflect the EM performance of your company.
Based on the profile of your company’s EM matrix, your task is to bridge the gap in your company EM
performance towards complying with EMGS 3-Star requirements in five years. Your proposal to the
top management should consist the followings:
- Needs analysis and statement for EMGS.
- Roadmap for setting up SEMS for your company.
- Detailed energy audit, Energy Conservation Measure including calculation
- Action plan (short & long term) using Gantt chart.
- Financial and resources plan.
- Action plan to comply with EMEER 2008.
Topic 3: Business proposal on Sustainable Energy Management (SEM) implementation
A facilities management company that you are working at is attempting to secure a contract to operate
and maintain an installation. The installation is mandated to comply with the Efficient Management
of Electrical Energy Regulation (EMEER) 2008, a regulation under the Electricity Supply Act 1990.
Prepare a proposal to secure the facility management contract from the owner. The salient points of
your proposal should include development of Sustainable Energy Management System (SEMS) based
on EMGS at their premise while complying to EMEER 2008 and savings of energy. Strengthen your
proposal by presenting a successful case study at your previous client to show your capability to deliver
your promise. Your proposal to the client should consist the followings:
- Track record.
- Why you should be their preferred choice.
- Needs analysis and statement for EMGS.
- Detailed energy audit, Energy Conservation Measure including calculation
- Roadmap for setting up SEMS for your company.
- 2-year action plan using Gantt chart.
- Financial and resources plan.
- Action plan to comply with EMEER 2008.
