SAPUI5 release and maintenance strategy
SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) (1/2)
SAPUI5 is delivering monthly cloud delivery via SAP BTP:
▪ Every month a new version is provided for productive usage
▪ Version number increases by one (no longer by two)
▪ As a rule, every 12th version will become a long-term maintenance version.
Maintenance phase ends after three years
▪ Only versions with long-term support receive patches (without new
innovations) for the duration of the maintenance
▪ In addition, bug fixes are released with the next version.
Exception: In case of show stoppers, also the most recent version is patched
with the correction code
This is the current state of planning and may be changed by SAP at any time.

SAP AS ABAP / FES (1/2)
SAPUI5 follows a biannual on-premise delivery cycle for the SAP Fiori Front
End Server (FES) as part of the User Interface Technology software
component (SAP_UI):
▪ The initial shipment of a new SAP_UI version contains a new innovation
version of SAPUI5.
▪ The SAPUI5 version, shipped as part of SAP_UI SP02, comes with long-
term maintenance. Its maintenance phase ends after three years.
▪ The maintenance of the SAPUI5 innovation versions ends in Q1 of the
following year after its release. After that, only incidents with “very high”
priority will be supported for an additional three months.
▪ During the maintenance phase versions receive bug fixes (without
innovations) via SAPUI5 patches or SAP_UI SPs.

Summary
▪ Every month, SAPUI5 releases a new version for productive usage
– On SAP BTP all SAPUI5 versions are shipped
– On SAP AS ABAP/FES only every 6th version is shipped
▪ Once a year, a version with long-term support is released and available on
both SAP platforms
▪ The release strategy follows the principle of “one innovation code-line”: the
monthly versions ensure continuous innovation with an evolving code line
The decision to consume any new version is up to the customers:
– In general, it is recommended to upgrade to the latest available SAPUI5
version
– In case regular version updates are out of question, it is recommended
to rely on a long-term maintenance version
