1 - Glossary
• HOST : software in charge of the bidirectional communication with the middleware (or L.I.S, or L.I.M.S).
- obtain the demographic data of the patients into the Phoresis worklist.
Purposes
- communicate the results to the middleware
• Phoresis : software in charge to drive the instruments
(MINICAP, MINICAP FLEX PIERCING, CAPILLARYS 2 FLEX PIERCING, GELSCAN S, CAPILLARYS 3 TERA / OCTA / TLA)
• PostgreSQL : open source object database system. It’s the structure (the format) of the database.
PostgreSQL is in charge to manage the database and its backup.
• LIS : Laboratory Information System.
Also called L.I.M.S (Lab Information Management System) or L.M.S (Lab Management System).
Software in charge of the entire information management system of a laboratory / hospital.
Features included (among others) : workflow and data tracking support, flexible architecture,
and data exchange interfaces
• Middleware :
Software interfacing several systems (software) to a single and central L.I.S
The software HOST can be connected to a middleware or (directly) to the L.I.S.
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 2/20
2 - Preamble
The HOST is automatically installed when installing Phoresis , but it’s not automatically updated when
updating Phoresis. It can be updated, uninstalled, (re)installed independently of Phoresis.
The HOST software is in direct communication
with the PostgreSQL database.
HOST software cannot be used for other
purpose than Phoresis software.
3 - General set up : LIS/Host parameters
The setup is defined on the following window :
Note : the password is 4644
3.1 - Protocol type
SEBIA is using only one protocol for the communication with an external system.
The protocol used is Phoresis Extended.
Please refer to the Phoresis Extended manual for more details.
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 3/20
3.2 - Connection method
There are 3 possibilities to connect the HOST to the Middleware (or LIS ) : RS232, or File Transfer (Network), or
TCP/IP
3.2.1 – RS232 connection method
On the PC, the connector port is a COM port (DB9 connector)
Using this connection method, the data are directly exchanged between the Middleware (or LIS )
and the HOST module.
COM port available : COM1, COM2, COM3, or COM4.
No other COM port.
NOTE : COM1 is often used for an instrument connection.
An additional PCI board can be mounted
and installed (drivers) on the PC.
RS232 SET UP COMMENT

ANSWER 200
Important : the cable to be used is a DB9 connector.
Simple straight through cable – Standard model
(family Null Modem)
Potentially, one (and only one) adaptor could be used
for the connection to the middleware (or L.I.S) :
DB9 to RJ45, or DB9 to USB or
Never use multiple adaptors
Never use more than one adaptor
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 4/20
3.2.2 – File Transfer (Network) connection method
On the PC, the connector port is an ethernet port of a network PCB (RJ45)
PHORESIS with MIDDLEWARE
DATABASE or L.I.S
(HOST)
Using this connection method, the data are exchanged through the network, using shared files
Option : Lock files can be used in order to make sure that the shared files are not read and write at the
same moment by both software. NOTE : if not correctly managed, it could create conflict(s).
Shared Worklist file (often named “[Link]” or “[Link]”) :
This file contains the demographic data of each patient : name, date of birth, concentration, …etc.
It must fulfill a specific size for each field.
For more details, please refer to the manual of the Protocol Phoresis Extended.
This file is saved into a shared folder, on the network. So, folder and files must be reachable and
readable by the Phoresis PC → full local rights on the shared folder.
The Middleware (or LIS ) company is managing this worklist file → create, update, or even erase the file (if necessary).
The HOST module is only reading into this file in order to upload the demographic data into the worklist of Phoresis.
Example of worklist file :
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 5/20
Shared Results file (often named “[Link]” or “[Link]”) :
This file contains the result of the analysis of each patient : demographic data, fraction names,
fractions values, comments... etc.
It must fulfill a specific size for each field.
For more details, please refer to the manual of the Protocol Phoresis Extended.
This file is saved into a shared folder, on the network. So, folder and files must be reachable and
readable by the Phoresis PC → full local rights on the shared folder.
The HOST module of Phoresis is managing this result file → create, update, or even erase the file (if necessary).
The Middleware / LIS company is reading the file in order to upload the data into their software.
Example of worklist file (1 sample exported) :
3.2.3 – TCP / IP connection method
The TCP/IP method is similar to the RS-232 method : it runs with MSGx packets (the same packets used in
RS-232), but the communication is faster, and the setting to be used, is different.
For more details, please refer to the manual of the Protocol Phoresis Extended.
Using TCP/IP method, a computer is in listening mode (the LIS computer) and another computer (Phoresis
PC) is asking for patient data (Import) or for sending results (Export).

4 - Import
Once the tubes are analyzed, the worklist of Phoresis display only the ID of the samples
(tube’s barcode labels), without demographic data :
Start up the HOST module and select “Import”
worklist
positions
After refreshing (*), the demographic data of each patient is displayed on the worklist of Phoresis :
(*) : depending of the Phoresis setup, it might be necessary to close and re-open the worklist.
When requesting an Import, the HOST will look into the Middleware / LIS database, searching for :
- an open record (not closed or locked)
- with the exact same ID,
- with the exact same program code (list of program code is setup into Phoresis software)
if one of the criteria is not fulfilled (not respected) then the import will fail the demographic data is (are) not displayed.
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 7/20
5 - Export
Once the interpretation of samples is done, start up the HOST
Select “Export” and then indicate the sample numbers (refer to the worklist) to be exported from
HOST (Phoresis ) to the Middleware / LIS
worklist
positions
On the Middleware / LIS software, verify that the desired samples are correctly integrated (received).
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 8/20
6 - Import / Export : main options
All those options can be modified according to the indications of the customer.
Middleware / LIS company must be aware about changes, modifications or options added in order to
make sure that they are compatible with their software (data correctly managed).
Those modifications are applied for all programs (all techniques).
Some options depend of the connection method :
Transmit IF Image - Transmit simulated ELP Image - Import Data in Card from the file
“Enable curve transmission” : send the dots of the curve (ASCII characters).
Doing so, the Middleware / LIS software can rebuild the graph of the curves.
“Enable additional field transmission” :
allows to select up to 40 programmable fields + the attached card comment.
1 2
1 Import Mode :
“Query ID” : firstly, the samples are analyzed. Once the analysis are completed, the demographic data of each
patient are imported using the HOST module (reading the Middleware / LIS data).
The Phoresis worklist is updated if the criteria matches.
this set up is strongly recommended.
“Worklist” : firstly, the demographic data of each patient are imported using the HOST module.
The Phoresis worklist is updated. And only then, the samples are analyzed.
2 “Deleting Worklist File”
During the import of the patients demographic data, HOST module can also update the Middleware / LIS
data.
Available only if the connection method is “File Transfer (Network)”.
3 Options
“Enable transmission in ‘Recall Mode’ ” : allows HOST communication from an earlier date.
Note : Phoresis date must also be set up at this same earlier date.
“Transmit real ID/Barcode for QC samples” : : the QC name from the control set up table is transmitted
: the default QC name is transmitted (ex : CONTROLID:N)
“Don’t send record with empty ID” : : record without barcode ID are not transmitted
: record without barcode ID can be transmitted
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 9/20
EXPORT (RESULTS)
IMPORT (WORKLIST DATA)
It’s possible to use free fields in order to indicate which samples have been Imported and/or Exported.
The indication appears into the Phoresis worklist.
Make sure to select a free field not already used for another purpose. Here, ideally select the free field 1 and 2.
“RealTime – Automatic Import – Automatic Export – Common" :
It’s possible to enable an automatic communication between Phoresis and the Middleware / LIS in order to update
the demographic data (Import the worklist) in real time, and/or export the results in real time.
“RealTime” option can be applied only for some analysis program (technique).
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 10/20
7 - Main files and folder
The HOST module, used by Phoresis , is installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\Phoresis\HOST.
The folder “HOST” contains :
▪ “[Link]” : executable file
▪ “[Link]” : set up file
▪ “[Link]” : log of the communication between HOST module and the PostgreSQL database.
▪ “[Link]” : ChangeLogFile. Sump up of the evolutions of each release.
• Folder “LOGS” : log files of the communication between HOST module and the Middleware / LIS .
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 11/20
8 - Update / New Installation
The current release is displayed on the top side of the HOST window
The HOST module, used by Phoresis , is installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\Phoresis\HOST.
Prior any update of the HOST module, please make a copy of the folder HOST.
The copy could be renamed as “HOST-Previous Rel - [Link]”.
After the update, if needed, to come back to the previous HOST version,
then rename “HOST” as “HOST-new release” and rename “HOST-Previous Rel - [Link]” as “HOST”.
It’s the exact same process for the update and for a new installation :
✓ Close the HOST module and close Phoresis.
✓ Verify the presence of the backup of the folder “HOST”
✓ Unzip the file and execute (icon ) the Update file, or the Installation file :
✓ Once Phoresis, and HOST, are restarted : verify the rel. displayed on the top side of the HOST module

Export a few results to the Middleware / LIS
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 12/20
9 - Examples and Troubleshooting – Import / Export
The troubleshooting depends of the connection method used.
• RS232 connection method or TCI/IP method :
Example of frames for the Import – Correct communication :
Since the HOST release 6.00 (and above), the communication between the HOST and the Middleware /
LIS is automatically saved HOSTTRACE files are saved into C:\Program Files (x86)\Phoresis\HOST\LOGS
The HOSTTRACE files can be opened using NotePad or NotePad++.
In case of issue, compare the log file with the frame described in the protocol Phoresis Extended.
Each character matters. The size of each field matters.
Example of log file for the Import – Incorrect communication :
Here, the Middleware / LIS is not answering
when HOST request the demographic data
for the ID patient 00000227300136.
➔ Potential causes : Bad setting for the port, or faulty port on the PC, or issue on the LIS side.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here, the demographic data of the patient are
not imported from the Middleware / LIS
to the worklist of Phoresis.
➔ Cause : Bad set up of the code program.
They are different between Phoresis (HOST) and the Middleware / L.I.S
Revision Date : May 26th, 2020 Page 13/20
• Network method connection :
Import : it’s necessary to investigate on the file located into the shared folder : “[Link]” (or “[Link]”).
Copy the file “[Link]” (or file “[Link]”) from the shared folder before to request a new Import.
Example of worklist file :
Export : it’s necessary to investigate on the file “[Link]” (or “[Link]”).
To copy this exported file, modify the name of the file into the HOST module.
For example, rename it as “[Link]” (or “[Link]”). Doing so, the Middleware / LIS will not take
into account this new exported file (different file). Only then, request a new Export of a few results.
Once the worklist file is copied, or once the new exported file is created, make sure to come back to the
previous HOST set up.
The HOSTTRACE files can be opened using NotePad or NotePad++.
In case of issue, compare the log file with the frame described in the protocol Phoresis Extended.
Each character matters. The size of each field matters.
