To ensure retention and understanding, the document outlines a multi-faceted approach including memorization assignments, review sessions, collaborative activities, and repeated application of laws in various formats (e.g., puzzles, example problems). This combination of reinforcement, revision, and practical application helps embed the mathematical rules and ensure long-term retention and understanding .

Video lessons are used to introduce and demonstrate concepts visually across different topics, yet their utility varies with complexity. For polynomials, videos accompany step-by-step board demonstrations. In contrast, exponent laws also include puzzle activities following videos for practice. This tailored approach based on topic complexity illustrates the use of video to bolster understanding before manual application .

Assignments play a crucial role in reinforcing classroom concepts as they encourage independent research and memorization, which aids retention. For example, students are tasked with researching subtraction rules or memorizing exponent laws at home, helping to solidify their understanding and ability to recall necessary information in class .

A tic-tac-toe game is used to encourage students to collaborate on combining like terms. This strategy promotes peer interaction and discussion. The game is structured on a 5 by 5 board which challenges students further by requiring more tactical thinking to achieve five in a row. Additionally, video lessons are utilized to introduce the topic, followed by a step-by-step procedure demonstrated by the teacher on the board, and a guided practice session where a student is asked to solve a polynomial addition with teacher support .

The application phase for teaching polynomial equations involves students explaining rules and solving problems with support from the teacher. For addition, a student applies their understanding under the teacher’s guidance. For subtraction, it's crucial for students to articulate the applicable rules as their understanding is tested through explanation .

Student engagement is facilitated through the use of a Square Puzzle activity. This allows students to interactively simplify expressions, incorporating six different properties of exponents. The element of choice in selecting answers keeps the activity dynamic and participatory, encouraging active involvement and repeated application of learned properties in varied contexts .

The document outlines a clear pedagogical progression by introducing simpler concepts like product of two binomials, then building on this foundation to more complex operations such as the product of the sum and difference of two terms, and eventually moving to special products like squares and cubes of binomials. Each stage involves application and examples, enabling incremental learning across lessons .

While both lessons incorporate video demonstrations, the subtraction of polynomials emphasizes memorization more heavily. The lesson includes a review where students recite the rules of addition before transitioning into subtraction, highlighting similarities and differences in methods. During the lesson development phase, the subtraction rules are explicitly outlined, reinforcing the need for students to articulate and apply them correctly, unlike addition where collaborative games are emphasized .

Memorization is integral to the learning process, particularly for rules and laws, as seen with the laws of exponents and subtraction of polynomials. Students are required to memorize these rules to apply them accurately in problem-solving scenarios, suggesting that retention of foundational rules is considered vital for success in more complex applications during lesson application stages .

Visual aids are incorporated through video lessons that introduce the concept of multiplying binomials. This is followed by the teacher presenting and explaining a general formula for solving the product of two binomials on the board. The representation of concepts visually helps students grasp and understand the process before they tackle problems independently .
