General Comments on Glazing Requirements
GL1 - Vision glass noted as double glazing, section details show single glazing.
GC1 - Colour back glazing is not noted as double glazing. But is to have the same U-Value and SHGC as GL1. Assuming this will be
double glazed with the colourback on the 2nd face from the outside.
Step 1 - Comments on Thermal Performance.
Target values nominated as:
U-Value = 4.3
SHGC = 0.45
From previous modelling on a similar system using 12mm Air Gap, not the specified Argon Filled, the total system U-Value for
Capral AGS 629 Flushline Double Glazed (150mm) and the Capral 150mm curtain wall system achieved:
Capral AGS 629 Flushline Double Glazed (150mm)
Total System U-Value = 3.849
Total System SHGC = 0.292
Capral 150mm Curtain Wall System
Total System U-Value = 3.148
Total System SHGC = 0.33
T1 Facades was not engaged for a Section J compliance report, so at this stage no further modelling or comments can be
provided to confirm the window systems achieve the target values nominated in the BCA Section J Energy Modelling and
Analysis Report noted in the finishes specification. Moving forward assuming that the change from Air Gap to Argon and other
optimisations will achieve the target values.

Step 1 Checking Human Impact
1200mm wide x 1800mm high. For human impact we have the following:
Actual area of glass = 1.2m x 1.8m = 2.16sqm
5mm toughened - Maximum Area of Glass Allowed by Table 5.1 = 4.5 sqm
5mm heat strengthened- Maximum Area of Glass Allowed by Table 5.1 = 3.3 sqm
Requiring Either
a. 5mm toughened to satisfy human impact criteria within the Double Glazed IGU Unit.
b. 5mm heat strengthened to satisfy human impact criteria within the Double Glazed IGU Unit.
Resulting IGU is either:
a. 5mm toughened + 12 Argon + 5mm toughened to satisfy human impact criteria.
b. 5mm HS + 12 Argon + 5mm HS to satisfy human impact criteria.

Step 2 Check Strength of Glass for Wind Pressures
Span = 1200mm
Aspect Ration AR = 1800/1200 = 1.5
Load Sharing Factor for IGU = 0.75
Pu = 0.75 x -1.08 kPa = 0.81 kPa on outer pane.
Maximum span of 5mm toughened glass = 2950mm at Pu = 1.00 kPa - OK

Step 3 Check Serviceability of Glass Panel
B/t = 1200/5 = 240
Aspect Ration AR = 1800/1200 = 1.5
Load Sharing Factor for IGU = 0.75
Ps = 0.75 x 0.71 kPa = 0.54 kPa
B/t limit is ~ 425. Our B/t is 240, therefore OK for concept stage.
