Q1)Overall Learnings
1. Understanding the Objectives:
● Clearly understood the specific objectives outlined in the scenario. Identify what is
expected in terms of scope, schedule, cost, and team morale.
2. Analyze the Trade-offs:
● Reviewed the trade-offs among scope, schedule, and cost. Since the scenario specifies
that the points available for scope are higher than for schedule or cost, we considered
how to prioritize scope without compromising the other two factors.
3. Develop a Project Plan:
● Created a comprehensive project plan that outlines how we’ll achieve the scope,
schedule, and cost goals. This plan included tasks, milestones, resources needed, and
the timeline.
4. Scope Management:
● Focused on delivering a printer that significantly surpasses the competitor's product.
Ensured that we fully understood the target specs and worked closely with the team to
meet or exceed these specifications.
5. Schedule Management:
● Given the aggressive schedule, we paid close attention to task dependencies, critical
path activities, and potential bottlenecks. We regularly monitored progress against the
schedule and adjusted as needed to meet the targets
6. Cost Management:
● Maintained a lean cost structure to meet the budget goals sometimes the budget went
overboard so that we could over perform in the scope. Kept track of expenses, allocated
resources efficiently, and explored opportunities for cost saving.
7. Team Morale:
● A consistent morale level of 85–95% is important for team productivity and collaboration.
Leant that a positive team environment, providing support, and addressing any
concerns promptly keeps up the morale of the team.
8. Risk Management:
● Identified potential risks that could impact scope, schedule, or cost. Developed
contingency plans to address these risks and minimize their impact on the project's
success.
9. Communication:
● Maintained communication with both the team and senior management. Regularly
update stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and achievements.
10. Continuous Improvement:
● Throughout the project, continuously evaluated the progress against the objectives. If
needed, made adjustments to our plan to ensure that you're on track to achieve the
goals.
11. Reflection and Learning:
● After the project is completed,we reflect on the performance. What went well? What
could have been improved? This feedback helped us to learn and refine the project
management skills for future simulations or real-world projects.
Insights into efficient team management and the complexities of managing project limitations
were gained through participation in a project management simulation. We discovered the value
of encouraging team spirit through regular meetings like status updates and standups
throughout the simulation. These encounters provided a forum for team members to
communicate, share their progress, and discuss potential obstacles. The ability to maintain
team morale and productivity was shown to depend on effective communication and a
collaborative environment.
The simulation also demonstrated how difficult it is to balance the complex trade-offs between
scope, cost, and time. Each component was clearly interrelated, and changing one always had
an effect on the others. This emphasized the value of thoughtful consideration prior to making
any changes to project parameters. We understood the need to order project components in
accordance with stakeholder needs and strategic objectives as we worked to maximize
outcomes.
The simulation not only emphasized the value of flexibility and strategic judgment, but it also
highlighted the function of project managers in guiding their teams to success. We came to
understand that project management calls for leadership, empathy, and the capacity to
maximize the potential of a team in addition to technical expertise.
Q2)
Scenario A:
Best Total Score: 782
● We out performed the management’s scope by completing level 4 printer and we
went over budget.
● Employee stress levels increased towards the end and decreased drastically due
to increase in team size.
● Could have completed it faster and within time if we had adhered to the given
scope.
Scenario B:
Best Total Score: 669
● We were able to finish the project 2 weeks ahead of schedule. We went over the
specified budget.
● For the first 4 weeks we were behind the schedule. So we started encouraging
overtime to get back on track.
● Encouragement of overtime started decreasing the team morale. This continued
till week 6.
● Then we changed the overtime to allow and reduced the team size. This helped
in bringing back the morale.
● Stress levels increased as the consequence of decrease in team strength.
Scenario C:
Best Total Score: 680
● We went over budget and finished with a 4 weeks delay.
● After week 4 we started increasing the team size to meet the timeline.
● Team skill level was kept at medium. This hindered the completion of tasks
● We got to know the team skill level plays an important role in completing the
tasks early.
Scenario D:
Best Total Score: 674
● We started with level 4 as target scope, team of 4-medium high and target week
completion as 12.
● The team size was 5 with medium - high skill level. Some primary tasks were
outsourced with 0 prototypes and overtime was allowed.
● Atleast 1-1-1 meetiing schedules were kept for weekly schedules. As and when
there were demand it was increased or reduced depending on the team
dynamics.
● It was in week 7 when we started outsourcing the work extensively..
Scenario E:
Best Total Score: 689
● Considering the targets for the scenario, we started with deploying 4
medium-high skilled workforce with high overtime encouraged from beginning.
● We continuously kept a track on the team dynamics and ensured satisfaction.
● Team size was kept constant to ensure constant flow of tasks.
● Team meets were kept as 1-4-1 and accordingly, as per the need they were
updated.
Scenario F:
Best Total Score: 532
● We went over budget and finished the project 2 weeks early.
● We focused more on the time and scope.
● The F scenario was about directing a product design team to develop a new and
innovative consumer printer as a competitor was launching a printer with similar
features and capabilities in 6 [Link] target scope was achieve the
level 4 printer in 15 weeks with a target budget of USD 57.5K.
