A.I.: Humanity’s Existential Crisis; Is This Really The Future We Look Forward To?

Society went from living in a neighborhood to all of it transferring into one square foot. As machines and
devices get more advanced and smarter. The world falls apart. Humanity is slowly losing the battle of
technology.

These days, in this generation, technology has taken over the world so much that this generation is
referred to as the “Digital Age”. Machines are getting more progressive and more futuristic. It started off
small when all technology could do was turn on a light or set an alarm, however as humans got smarter
and smarter, their technology was sure to follow and it did as now we have technology that can do
wonders and achieve things beyond what was thought to be impossible.

Now we have progressed far beyond natural means as we use technology in our everyday lives and most
of us can’t live without it, however we feel that it is progressing too quickly.
Even back then, technology was advanced enough to clean your plates for you or to wash your clothes
instead of you doing it by hand and saving a bunch of time. But now technology is doing more
complicated things such as writing essays, providing ideas, and et cetera. The problem here is that
everything now is automated, meaning everything is being done for you without you having to do
anything. And that is what makes us humans, lazy and incomplete.

So, what would be the purpose of us humans when technology can do what we can do but a hundred
times better? What is the purpose of education and teachers when humans can just use chat gpt? What is
the purpose of a doctor when we can use A.I. to find out what sicknesses we have? And how sure are we
that the doctor doesn’t use A.I too? Technology is more intelligent than the smartest people in the world
as well as being stronger too from being able to lift tons more than regular humans. So, if tech is superior
to us in every way, why do we even bother trying anymore? Is our purpose finished? Was our full
purpose to manufacture something that would surpass us and make us redundant? As scientists and
mechanics are trying to bring technology out of our phones and computers and make them into their own
device and God knows what’s going to happen then.

As one day technology will surpass much farther beyond simple devices like calculators, washing
machines, dishwashers, printers and it has already started. Soon we will reach the point where a robotic
arm feeds us lunch or it showers us and clothes us automatically without us having to move, and if this
continues, our future generation might eventually even forget how to turn on a light or sweep the floors or
to open a door because of this oversimplified lifestyle. We always want the newest things like the latest
iPhone or Tablet or Air pods or other technology, but should we even want these things? Are these new
features necessary? Why do we need a phone that recognizes our face or a tablet that can run 20 apps at
once or a fridge that can play music or display images? If technology can do this now, then what’s next?

Will tech find a way to read our minds, or fix our bed, or tie our shoes for us? If we don’t keep our
humanity alive then what was ever the point of our existence? Is this what we want? Do we want to allow
technology to control our lives like this? Do we want to be rendered useless as technology pampers us?
As of now, it is convenient, but what about the future? Perhaps it may be too convenient, you think? Like
they say, too much of anything is never good.
Technology advancing is great, it shows that we as humans are progressing, but are we actually
progressing if we don’t do anything by ourselves anymore? Let’s say we are because things are constantly
changing and tech is evolving much better and faster than we ever could. But soon, technology won’t
need us to control it anymore, sentient and conscious technology will always be on and dictate our
movements and move for us. We don’t think any more unless we are forced to as when we come across a
question we can’t answer right away, we turn to our phones and Google the answer or ask Siri rather than
answering it ourselves. Everything is instant now, and simple things such as patience, tolerance, balance,
kindness and behavior have been lost to the technology that tells you how to act and does everything to
ensure your eyes stay glued to your phone at all times.

Technology isn’t evil, but we are getting too comfortable with it as back then, technology was used as the
quicker method, however now technology seems like it’s the only correct way of doing something as
when people find something technology can’t do yet, they find a way for technology to do it and that is
the problem. We are dependent. We are stuck. And we are slowly losing abilities like cleaning or writing
when tech does it for us instead of us doing it for ourselves. We complain about pizza arriving 2 minutes
late when back then people wouldn’t mind if their meal got delayed 10 minutes. All of our time and
money is going to making the next model of phones smaller and look better, rather than the more
important things like curing cancer or helping the homeless. Rather we waste time on what color the next
PS5 should be and it’s masking the ugly truth of it all, the fact that we are losing our consciousness to this
misshapen, deformed reality of everything being seemingly “perfect”. Simply put, we lose either way.

As if tech stops developing, some people won’t be able to do anything as they have already lost
themselves to tech and if tech continues developing, we will eventually lose ourselves anyway. On
another note, AI is starting to get scarily intelligent, it was intelligent before but now it’s gotten to the
point that there is a likelihood that in the next few years your phone will know you better than you or your
family knows you. That’s scary isn’t it? Imagine a manmade object knowing you better than yourself,
your friends, and family.

This is a problem that is very easy to solve, and you can do it right now. Put your phone down and
appreciate the world around you, see the Earth with your eyes rather than on Pinterest. You don’t need
your phone to tell you what to order or what you need, that person is you. So, take control of your life and
surpass technology organically, because while technology is stronger, smarter, faster, and sleeker. You
have feelings, you have morals, you have standards, you have patience, you have everything you need
and that technology doesn’t have and can never simulate. And that’s what matters.

So, Is This Really The Future We’re Looking Forward To?
