AIMRAD Format for Research Papers

The document outlines the AIMRAD format for structuring academic papers and research studies. The AIMRAD format includes: Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results, and Analysis/Discussion sections. Each section has specific guidelines for content and formatting. For example, the Introduction establishes the known and unknown about the research topic, while the Method section allows others to replicate the study. Overall, the AIMRAD format provides a standardized structure for presenting research findings and analyses.

AIMRAD Format

A-I-M-R-A-D is an acronym for Abstract-Introduction – Method – Results – Analysis

and Discussion.

1. Titles of studies should be at the center and in boldface using Arial font size
12 in the upper-lower letter case design. If they would be having more than
one line, the inverted pyramid or the hanging indention stylehas to be
followed. A good title should contain as few words as possible. Many journals
limit titles from 12 to 15 main or important words only. Abbreviations,
formulas, and low-impact words such as ‘‘Some notes on…’’, ‘‘Observations
on…’’, ‘‘Investigations on…’’, and ‘‘Study of …” are to be avoided. Phrases
and not sentences are the ones to be expressed.

2. The name of the researcher is placed below the title. It should also be
centered following the same font size and design as the title but should be in
italics and not in boldface. The residence address, email address, contact
number, and institution should follow and must be placed below the name of
the researcher. All the mentioned components should maintain single
spacing. In the case of tandem and multiple researchers, the arrangement
may be alphabetical or may have the name of the leading researcher as the
first to be mentioned.

3. The main manuscript only allows 15 to 25 pages and the lines are doubly
spaced. The language must be as plain and as unambiguous as
[Link] is the format to be followed.

4. The margins of the paper on top, at the right, and below must be one inch
while one point five (1.5) inches is given to the left for the binding
[Link] page is numbered and this is placed at the upper right corner
with half-inch margin from the top.

5. Three single spaces should be maintained before starting with the sections
Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results, Analysis, and Discussions. These
section titles should be in italics, in upper-lower case design but not in
boldface.

Abstract

A short abstract that should not be more than 150 words is provided before the
introduction. It is in block form, singly spaced and the entire paragraph is in italics and in
Arial font-size 11. It must be brief and not a place to describe the details, but rather to
give the reader a short but whole taste of each important [Link] should be
provided in two single spaces after the abstract but must not be more than five words
and may not necessarily be coming from the title. It is followed by a colon, in boldface,
upper-lower case design while its componentsmust be in italics and not in boldface,
which must be separated by commas. They must contain the following components: the
discipline of the study, concepts provided, themethod and process, and the country
where the study was made. They end with a period. The font size is reduced to 10.

Introduction

It states the purpose and importance of the research. It essentially establishes

the known and unknown. It revisits the existing facts and brings new ones to light.
Everything that is written should be relatedto the research questions.

The author begins by describing the problem or situation that motivates

themaking. Discussing the current state of research in the field follows through the
significant literature and studies especially. The gap or the problem in the field must be
clearly stated. There is a need to explain how the present research can be a solution to
that problem or gap. It mentions the significance of the study, the expected benefits,
and the beneficiaries. Verifiable theories and concepts must likewise be provided.

Note: Conceptual and operational definitions of terms are done the first time they
appear in the manuscript. Acronyms are likewise immediately spelled out as they
come out in the study.

Method

The section tells how the author or researcher conducted the study. It includes
information about the population, sample, and validated and reliability-tested instrument
(equipment or tool). Standardized and/or adapted ones are made clear. The data
gathering procedure stipulates the ethical standards adhered [Link] or statistical
analysis, and the justification of the users are likewise given emphasis. Saturating or
trending answers of the informants for consideration in the validity and reliability designs
are measures for verifications such as in the case of qualitative studies. The “gold
standard” of the section is that it should enable readers to replicate the study. It typically
is written in the past tense.

Results

It is in this section that the findings are expressed. It is usually written in the past. All
tables and figures are labeled and numbered. Captions go above tables and below
figures. For quantitative studies, tables or graphs can be used for clarity of results;
however, only the most important ones may be included. These may be those bearing
the highest, the lowest, or the modal portion of the results. The objectives and/or
statement of the problem should be the basis of gathering the results. For qualitative
studies, some very relevant direct or indirect quotations may be included. For direct
quotations which are expressed in the dialect, their original form should be retained and
a translation to English should be parenthetically included.

Analysis and Discussions

This is the most important section to build the author’s [Link] findings,
comments on those findings, and connections to other research are formed. Limitations
of the study are articulated. These are used as reasons to suggest additional future
research (replication). The analysis details what others may learn from the data. The
discussion suggests what new knowledge is provided to the field. Mentioning some
pieces of the initial and grounded literature can help in the validity and reliability proofs
of the results.

References

Note: Only those mentioned in the manuscript should be included They should
be alphabetized accordingto the family names of the authors.

Common questions

Replication is vital to validate and verify research findings. This is achieved by detailing how the study was conducted, including population information, sample, validated instruments, data gathering procedure, and statistical analysis. Ethical standards and reliability measures are emphasized to allow others to accurately replicate the study .

Tables should be labeled and numbered with captions above them, and figures should have captions below them. Only the most important tables or graphs may be included, particularly those with significant results, like the highest, lowest, or modal portions .

Incorporating ethical standards ensures that research is conducted responsibly, safeguarding participant welfare and maintaining integrity. It addresses informed consent, confidentiality, and ethical data handling, crucial for gaining reader trust and upholding the study's credibility .

This section builds credibility by presenting main findings, comments, and connections to other research, while articulating study limitations. It suggests additional research and details new knowledge contributions to the field, supported by initial and grounded literature to validate results .

Relevant direct or indirect quotations should be included. For direct quotations in a dialect, they should be presented in the original form with an English translation parenthetically included, facilitating understanding while maintaining contextual authenticity .

The abstract should not exceed 150 words, be in block form, singly spaced, and in italics using Arial font size 11. It provides a brief overview of each important section and is followed by a keywords section, which includes up to five words related to the discipline of the study, concepts, method and process, and study location, formatted in a specific style .

The title should be centered, in boldface using Arial font size 12, and in upper-lower letter case design. If it spans more than one line, the inverted pyramid or hanging indention style is used. It should contain as few words as possible, typically limited to 12 to 15 main words, and avoid abbreviations, formulas, and low-impact words .

The author should clearly state the gap or problem in the field and explain how the present research addresses this gap. It involves discussing the current state of research through significant literature, presenting the purpose and importance of the study, and highlighting its expected benefits and beneficiaries .

Conceptual and operational definitions provide clarity and precision, ensuring that readers understand the specific meanings of terms as used in the study. These should be introduced the first time they appear to facilitate comprehension and avoid ambiguity, enhancing the manuscript's overall quality .

References should only include sources mentioned in the manuscript, alphabetized by the authors' family names, ensuring that all cited works in the text are accurately listed .
