Title

Alternative Learning System (ALS) Student Tracking

Application
Abstract

Technology has become a modern enabler. The use of technology enables

different industries and institutions to enhance productivity and services.
Many sectors use technology to systematically automate their processes
and transactions especially the educational sector. Schools adopt the use
of computerized equipment and systems in teaching students and
managing all aspects of their operations. The capstone project, titled
“Alternative Learning System Student Tracking Application” is designed for
tracking student’s records and progress under the Alternative Learning
System program. The current system of tracking ALS students is done by
manually collecting and keeping their records and data to assess their
progress which is prone to errors and inconvenience.
One of the most effective and efficient ways in getting rid of the problems
encountered in the current method of tracking ALS students are IT-based
solutions. In conjunction with this, the researchers are eyeing on
developing an application that will ease up tracking and monitoring of
students. The tracking application will assist the ALS facilitators to take a
grasp of their student’s records for easy monitoring.
Introduction

The capstone project, “Alternative Learning System Student Tracking

Application” is an application that will track student’s records and progress
under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program. The student
tracking application will help ALS facilitators take a grasp of their student’s
records for easy monitoring.
The Alternative Learning System is a non-formal education program that is
designed for out-of-school youth and adults that needs basic literacy skills.
ALS is a non-formal education system meaning students aren’t present in
school settings every day, instead they are required to attend learning
sessions based on the agreed schedule between them and the ALS
instructors. The ALS program usually tracks their student’s status by
manually collecting the records and data of the students. The manual
approach is ineffective for it takes a lot of time and effort and is also
prone to human errors. Since students are only present during agreed

schedules, it is hard for the ALS instructors to track their performance
since their records are not intact.

Methods

The researchers will develop the tracking application using the System
Development Life Cycle Approach (SDLC) approach. The SDLC approach
composes of stages such as determining project requirements, data
gathering, data analysis, designing, and coding that lead to the
development of the software.
The implementation of the tracking application will eliminate all the
problems and difficulties encountered in the manual process. The tracking
application will lead to effective and efficient student tracking under the
ALS program.

Results and Discussion

Conclusion and Recommendations

Student tracking is an important activity in order to monitor the students

standing and progress in school. The Alternative Learning System is a non-
formal educational program which means students are not present every
day in school which makes it more important to monitor and track their
records of performance and progress. The study was conducted in order
to assess the current method use by the ALS program in tracking their
students. The researchers have seen that the manual method is not
effective and efficient that needs development and improvement. With
this, the researchers developed an Alternative Learning System Student
Tracking Application

The result of the study showed that the developed tracking application
met the needs and requirements of the respondents and the intended
users. The majority of the respondents and intended users have seen the
potential of the application in completely eliminating the concerns and
difficulties encountered in the current method. The application will
electronically aid the process of tracking students under ALS program in
order to monitor their performance and progress under the program. The
developed application will make student tracking easy, fast, convenient
and efficient.

The result of the study prompts the researchers to highly recommend the
implementation of the system. The researchers recommend that the ALS
program should adapt the use of the developed application in order for
them to easily track their students. The application will automate the
process of collecting and gathering student records and data as a basis in
assessing their performance and progress under the ALS program. The
implementation of the application is highly recommended because of its
effectiveness and reliability that can be rendered to the intended users.
The researchers suggest that the intended users should have enough
knowledge on how the program will work for them to correctly use the
system.
The researchers specifically recommend the following:

1. The application should be implemented in the ALS program to

conveniently track students.
2. The researchers suggest that every ALS facilitator should install and
use the application for them to easily track and monitor the
performance and progress of their students.
3. The researchers highly recommend the implementation of the
developed application for its reliability and accuracy in collecting
records and data of the students.
4. The developed application is highly recommended to be
implemented in order to eliminate the problems encountered in the
manual method.

Common questions

Powered by AI

Efficient student tracking is crucial for the ALS program because students are not present every day, thus making it challenging to monitor their progress and attendance with a manual system . The ALS program relies heavily on the timely and accurate record of student progress to tailor educational content and interventions effectively. The new application addresses these needs by providing ALS facilitators with a tool that automates and simplifies the data collection and monitoring process, ensuring that they have accurate and up-to-date information about students' learning outcomes .

Challenges faced in the development and implementation of a student tracking application include ensuring user receptiveness, overcoming resistance to change from manual methods, and providing adequate training for users. The document suggests overcoming these challenges through comprehensive training programs that equip users with necessary skills, clear communication of the application benefits to encourage buy-in, and ensuring robust support during the transition phase .

The ALS Student Tracking Application improves upon the current manual system by automating the process of recording and tracking student progress, which reduces human errors and inefficiencies associated with manual data collection. The manual system is time-consuming and labor-intensive, as it requires physically collecting and managing student records . The application streamlines this process by providing a centralized, easily-accessible digital platform for ALS facilitators to monitor students, thereby enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the data collected and reducing the potential for record-keeping errors .

Transitioning from a manual to an automated student tracking system is likely to significantly improve the educational experience for students in the ALS program by ensuring that their progress and performance data is accurately recorded and readily accessible to instructors. This shift allows instructors to provide more personalized educational strategies and interventions, thus enhancing the learning experience. The effective monitoring and quick availability of performance data also motivate students by providing them consistent feedback on their progress .

The main advantages of implementing the ALS Student Tracking Application include increasing efficiency and effectiveness in monitoring students' progress and standing. The application addresses the inefficiencies and error-prone nature of the manual tracking method by automating the processes of collecting and managing student records and data . Additionally, the tracking application is expected to simplify and accelerate the student monitoring process, making it more convenient for ALS facilitators to assess performance and progress .

The expected outcomes of implementing the ALS Student Tracking Application include the elimination of difficulties and errors associated with the current manual tracking methods, resulting in a more streamlined, efficient, and accurate monitoring process. This will enable ALS facilitators to effectively track student attendance and performance, ultimately supporting and enhancing student learning outcomes .

The researchers employed the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach to develop the ALS Student Tracking Application. This approach includes stages such as determining project requirements, data gathering, data analysis, designing, and coding, all of which contributed to the successful development of the software .

The researchers recommend the full-scale implementation of the tracking application within the ALS program. They advocate for its use by all ALS facilitators to ensure comprehensive coverage of its benefits. Additionally, they stress the importance of providing adequate training for users to optimize the system's usage, ensuring facilitation of smooth technology integration in everyday activities related to student tracking .

The study concluded that the ALS Student Tracking Application is significantly more effective and efficient compared to the manual tracking method. The application fulfills the requirements of intended users by completely eliminating the concerns and difficulties associated with the manual method. Respondents saw the application having the potential to replace the manual process by making student tracking more convenient, fast, and reliable .

To ensure successful implementation and utilization, the researchers suggest that the ALS program should adopt the application widely and that each ALS facilitator should install and actively use it. They also recommend that users be adequately trained to ensure they have sufficient understanding and skills to make effective use of the system. The researchers believe these steps are essential because they contribute to the accurate collection and management of student data, thus realizing the potential benefits of the application .
