Reflection

I recently had the opportunity to attend Teacher’s Workshop and Orientation with a theme
"Religion as a Core of the Curriculum: Synodal Schools for a Synodal Church" held last August 26-
27, 2023 at St. Joseph College of Canlaon Inc. Canlaon City. The workshop orientation aimed to
enhance our understanding about the phase of education we are in right now and how we are
going to cope with it as a Catholic teacher. In this reflection, I will explore the some important
insight I gained from this valuable experience.

First, I learned about fourth waves of industrial revolution as it was highlighted in the beginning of
the orientation by the speaker. This fourth wave of industrial revolution offers opportunities for
innovation, economic growth, and improved quality of life. However, As we navigate this
revolution, it's important to balance between embracing the modern world and addressing its
social, mental, ethical implications. It must be the collaborative efforts of everyone especially us
teacher to help student to use this revolution for positive future in the era of Industry 4.0.

Second, I used to know the word challenges that refer to the problem we are facing for over the
years but it was change into the term emergency. The shift from calling challenges
to"emergencies" can reflect the changing nature of the world and our understanding of urgent
issues. Its need the call for collaborative action among the students, parents, educators,
administrator and all public and private sectors to address this challenges. As it was mention by
Fr. Virgillo its TIME FOR CHANGE, we need to change our present mentalities that instead of
individualism we will become a communion of communities, instead of disregarding the truth we
need to evangelize the community and in the world or materialism and consumerism we need to
be the church for poor so that we can gradually make impact to the people surrounds us
especially our students.

Third, I was able to understand the goal and the quality education of Catholic Schools and
Catholic educators. The mission of a Catholic teacher is to educate, inspire, and guide students in
their journey toward becoming well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient
but also grounded in their faith, morally upright, and committed to making positive contributions
to society. This mission aligns with the Catholic Church's broader goal of fostering spiritual growth
and the common good. As teacher, it is also my goal to integrate it into my lessons by giving them
meaningful activities which will we become way to infuse values, ethics, and spirituality into the
learning experience.

Lastly, I would like to highlight the word MISSION as I hear it again and again in the workshop
orientation. I was asking myself what will be my mission as a Catholic teacher and I think as I
continue listening I was able to ponder that being a Catholic teacher is a vocation, a calling to
serve both academically and spiritually. My mission is to help students grow not only in knowledge
but also in their relationship with God and their fellow human beings. It involves nurturing the
whole person and preparing them to be responsible, compassionate, and ethical members of
society.

In conclusion, attending the "Teacher’s Workshop Orientation" has been an eye-opening


experience for me. The knowledge I obtained has provided me with valuable insights that I can
apply in both my personal and professional life. I am inspired to continue learning and growing as
a teacher, and I look forward in implementing these knowledge to enhance my effectiveness in
various contexts. This orientation has been a stepping stone in my journey towards becoming a
more effective educator with a mission to inspire students to be a better individuals.

Communal approaches in the educational mission of Catholic schools play a significant role in responding to modern-day emergencies by fostering a sense of shared responsibility and cooperation among different stakeholders such as students, parents, educators, and the wider community . By promoting communion over individualism, Catholic schools encourage collective problem-solving and mutual support, creating an environment where ethical values and spiritual goals can flourish even amid societal challenges. This all-inclusive approach aligns with Catholic teachings on community and service, supporting comprehensive responses to contemporary emergencies .

Attending the "Teacher’s Workshop Orientation" provided insights that enriched both personal and professional development for Catholic teachers by emphasizing the vocation aspect of teaching as a spiritual and academic calling . It highlighted the importance of guiding students to grow in knowledge and faith, inspired continuous learning, and encouraged teachers to nurture students holistically—preparing them to be responsible and ethical society members.
