OCTOBER 2011
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS Our Sunday School enrollment is up to 33 students, with 6 new members: Coy Gist, Eli & Logan Hansen, Keaton & Ryanne Long, and Henry Rose. Welcome!! A great big thanks to our 5 new teachers this year: Mindy Moritz in Cooking, Tim Buchite & Brady Combs in Games, and Derek Getz & Chelsey Helget in Movie Time. Our helpers this year are: Jake Combs, Ryleigh Johnson, Zach Ketcher, Keaton Long, Devin Schack, Taylin Schleicher, and Kode Seifert. You do an awesome job! Once again, the Sunday School will be serving the first Sunday of each month. The money donated at the coffee hour will be used to buy items for the Sunday School. The first item on our wish list is a popcorn machine for the Movie Room. On the 4th Sunday of each month, we will be singing or presenting a skit during church services. Youll love to hear and see our talented students! Community Service projects are held at the end of each rotation series. We are looking for a project for October 16th and welcome your suggestions. In November we will be planting small evergreen trees in our flower planters to decorate for the holidays. Please let us know if you have any expert advice. Its not too early to be thinking about our Christmas Program. This year we will present a traditional program, Journey to the Christ Child which was printed in 1981. It will feature the journey from Eden, through the Old Testament, to the journey of Gabriel. Were looking for help with costumes, staging, props, and special music. Let us know if youd like to be involved. Just a reminder that we need email addresses for all teachers, helpers, and students. Please submit your address as soon as possible. Upcoming Events: November 13th: December 18th: January 8th: Veterans & Servicemen Appreciation Christmas Program at 10:30 AM Open House in our SS Rooms

Jesus Is Ark Today

As the ark was the only way for salvation during Noahs generation, the Bible says believing and trusting in Jesus is the only way for salvation today. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1Timothy 1:15 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. 1 John 3:5

Peace men's choir will be singing every third Sunday of each month beginning October 16, 2011 Practice will be at 9:40am on the Sunday we are scheduled to sing. Practice will consist of approximately 30 minutes of fine tuning the song for that Sunday and working on, and the songs selected for the next two months services. We will also sing a chapel anthem (same song each time we sing). If you would like to join us, please call Leon Johnson (528 2304 or cell 320-8153611) so your name can be added to the list.
Church Carpet is going to cleaned by Butch Wentland either the 3rd of 4th week in October depending in his schedule. We will be needing help in taking down and putting back up tables, chairs, etc. He will also be doing the basement. We will let know for sure the date.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH

Why Should We Show Our Pastor Appreciation?

For God so loved the world that

he have his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17

Grace Gods free & unmerited favor for sinful humanity So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7

Thessalonians 5: 12 13 says: And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders, who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love. Pastors are ordinary human beings, with limited energy, time, and strength. They often have wives and children that also need their time, attention, and love as well. They also need time for rest & recreation, they have down days and dry times in their faith walk, just as you and I do. Discouragement can come when a pastor faces unrealistic expectations or verbal discouragement from the very people he is serving. Members of the clergy need our prayers and encouragement, just as we need and expect that support from them.

Mercy - forgiving: compassionate

In his great mercy he has given
us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peters 1:3

The Simply Giving Program Would you find it helpful to have your offering drawn from your bank account as you do other monthly drafts? The Simply Giving Program endorsed by Thrivent Financial Bank is for people who wish to have offerings transferred electronically to their churchs account. This is especially helpful for people who travel and want to keep their intended offerings up-to-date, rather than making up the difference later. Several members have already signed up and use this program. It is nice that their financial gifts to Peace Lutheran Church continue even if they are out of town and arent able to at worship. To get started you just need to fill out an enrollment form and a voided check. If you are interested please let the church office know and we will help you get started.

Truth-reality; actuality
Thomas said to him, Lord, we dont know where you are going, so how can we know the way? 6Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14: 5-6

Stewardship of the Good News

Taking Care of the Neighbor. Its something we tend to (or at least should) hear a lot about in church, and in our homes as we talk about what it means to live out our Christian faith. Unfortunately I think too often we hear this only through the lens of not doing enough of it. We talk about how good we have it, in this area of our life or that, and quickly jump to how we aren't doing enough to take care of those less fortunate in that area of their lives. I feel like it has almost become a situation in which the guilt of not doing enough paralyzes us. I don't think that is what God wants for us. The good news for us here at Peace, is that in at least some areas of our shared life together, taking care of the neighbor has become so much of what it means to be Peace that we don't even recognize God's work through us. This year we are partnering with Lincoln Lutheran Church, our neighbor congregation, for confirmation. Why? Because our church council heard the need, identified that we had a gift we could give to our neighbor, and offered to help. This year we are partnering again with the West Central Area School, our neighbor, for a Release Time, which is open for ALL kids 5th and 6th grade. This is our third year, and knowing that most of the kids who would be coming are not from families of our congregation; knowing that many of the kids who would be coming are not associated with any church in the area; knowing that the kids themselves are so full of life and energy that it may sometimes drain those teaching and leading; knowing that the cost of transportation and curriculum is between $20-$30 per week; knowing all those things our church council heard the need, identified we had a gift we could give to our neighbor, and offered to help. When tragedies have hit our neighbor's in the community, be it illness, disasters, or deaths, my experience of Peace has been nothing but amazing. We gather around to comfort, support and care for those hurting, without expectation or alerter motives. Why? We heard the need, identified we had a gift we could give to our neighbor, and offered to help. The list truly goes on and on: blood drives; support during weddings; money toward far away natural disaster response; Youth mission trip; welcoming during Old Settler's; support of Youth; support of those living at Barrett Care; WELCA; Men's Breakfast You are a wonderful, caring, loving congregation. One I am VERY proud to be a part of. Thank you for being the Church. Thank you for taking seriously Jesus' Call to take care of the Neighbor, and for being the people of God here in Barrett. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for our shared ministry in the coming months and years. Amen. YOUTH NEWS We have once again kicked off Fall with the beginning of confirmation, sunday school and release time here at church! Its always fun to see the extra life that is infused into the building as it again becomes filled. We are always looking for more helpers, especially for release time, so if you are available some Wednesday afternoons, and interested, please contact Pr. Matthew or Sandy in the office. We also are looking for donations to help fund our release time program, as it is a non-budgeted ministry. The cost for transportation is $20 per week, and we would like $5-10 to use to help make their time here a good and faith building experience .Our Confirmation room is also in need/want of some way of storing things. We don't know what this would look like, but Pr. Matthew and the kids brainstormed something like a closet or large wardrobe. This would be used to store larger youth group supplies like the water activities, etc. We are also trying to figure out a way to display in the Youth Room a chunk of the Brick Wall (that is signed by the group that went) from the 2011 summer mission trip. If you have ideas, please contact Pr. Matthew. Finally, our Youth group (7th-12th graders) will be having our first gathering this month. We will be organizing school supplies to bring to WCA, having dinner, and planning monthly activities for the rest of this school year. Pastor Matthew
