Purpose: To persuade my audience why we need to learn to cook for our own benefits.
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Attention Material
As a university student, we have a lot on our plate. From studying for exams to
attending lectures, our schedule can be overwhelming. With so much going on,
it's easy to become reliant on takeaway and fast food to keep us moving. But
what if I told you that learning to cook may unlock the door to a healthier, happier,
and more valuable lifestyle?
B. Tie to Audience
Do you guys have an interest in cooking? Show me your reactions. Basically,
everyone knows about cooking but does not know the importance of learning to
cook.
C. Credibility Material
I have been watching my parents cook in the kitchen and also watching cooking
shows on television or the internet. I also have learned that cooking is not just
about following a recipe, but also about understanding the science behind the
ingredients and techniques.
D. Thesis & Preview
That is why I want to share with you today why I believe that learning to cook can
make you have a life skill, can save your money and can increase your focus
and attention in your life.

II. BODY
A. Main point 1: The first point, cooking is a life skill that should be learned.
(Cooking helps you become an independent adult. (Qisa, 2020))
a. Sub-point 1: Learning to cook can boost your confidence in your skills and
help you become more independent and self-sufficient.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: You may control your own nutrition and food choices
through cooking.
ii. Sub-subpoint 2: As you learn how to adapt recipes and solve problems
in the kitchen, cooking can also help you build problem-solving abilities.
b. Sub-point 2: Cooking is a skill that you may use and improve for the rest of
your life, making it a valuable investment in your future.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: Cooking is a lifelong skill that may be shared with
friends and family as well as passed down through generations.
ii. Sub-subpoint 2: You can test your culinary skills as you gain expertise
by using more difficult recipes and techniques.
c. Sub-point 3: Cooking abilities can be essential to survival and well-being
in emergency scenarios or unexpected situations.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: If a natural disaster or other emergency happens,
being able to cook for yourself would guarantee that you have access to
meals for you to survive.

B. Main point 2: The second point, cooking can make us save money.

be fully aware of how much money we actually spend on our food choices each

out or buying takeaway on a regular basis, making it a great way to save
money and stick to a budget.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: You can control the portion sizes and ingredients when
you cook at home, making it a healthier and more cost-effective option.
ii. Sub-subpoint 2: Cooking at home also allows you to properly use up
foods that would otherwise go to waste, lowering your food costs even
further.
b. Sub-point 2: You may make a wide variety of meals by learning to
cook with simple ingredients and kitchen staples instead of buying expensive
or pre-packaged products.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: Rice, beans, and pasta can be used in many different
kinds of meals and are generally far less expensive than pre-packaged or
pre-made meals.

breaking your budget if you learn to cook with these ingredients.

C. Main point 3: The third point, from cooking we get to increase our focus and

which could potentially increase cognitive function and concentration.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: Cooking requires following recipes, measuring
ingredients, and multitasking, which all demand focus and attention to
detail.
i. Sub-subpoint 2: By regularly engaging in these tasks, this can benefit
you in other aspects of your life, such as job or university, where focus and
concentration are required.
b. Sub-point 2: Cooking can actually be calming and soothing, which
lowers stress and improves mental health.
i. Sub-subpoint 1: You can take a break from the stresses of daily life
and focus on something pleasant and creative by cooking as a form of self-
care.
ii. Sub-subpoint 2: Cooking chores that include repetitive motions, such
chopping or stirring, can be meditative and relaxing.
iii. Sub-subpoint 3: You can strengthen relationships and reduce feelings
of loneliness by making and eating meals with others.
Transition: Now, we are going to the conclusion part before I end my speech.
III. CONCLUSION

All in all, cooking is a life skill that everyone should learn. Not only can it bring us
joy and satisfaction, but it can also lead to numerous practical benefits.

Today, we have explored the many reasons why cooking is a skill worth investing
in. We have discussed how it can save us money, improve our focus and
attention, and provide us with valuable life skills that will serve us well beyond
the kitchen.
