SUBJECT: STANDARD MATHEMATICS (041)
Project for class XII
Dear Students,
This is to notify all of you the topics and proper procedure of successfully completing your
Standard Mathematics (041) Project, on which your internal assessment of AISSCE-2024 will
depend. The Project has to be drafted in the following format.
1. COVER PAGE DESIGN
Name of School, LOGO of School and CBSE affiliation Number.
Subject name with subject code.
Session (2023 – 2024).
Student’s name.
Class and Section.
Roll Number.
2. 1st PAGE
Acknowledgement – A Note Of Thanks.
3. 2nd PAGE
Table of Contents (INDEX) – With proper page number.
A brief Description of all the project activities you choose to perform in 1 or 2 lines.
4. 3rd PAGE Onwards
Perform and record the Activities.
Conclusion – Your learning and understanding of how applicable your project activity is.
5. LAST PAGE − BIBLIOGRAPHY
References of your contents.
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE RESPECTIVE TOPICS ON WHICH YOU WILL PERFORM
YOUR PROJECT WORK
1. To verify that the relation R in the set L of all lines in a plane,
defined by R = {(l, m): l ⊥ m} is symmetric but neither reflexive nor transitive.
2. To verify that the relation R in the set L of all lines in a plane, defined by
R = {( l, m) : l || m} is an equivalence relation.
3. To demonstrate a function which is not “one – one” but is “onto”.
4. To demonstrate a function which is “one − one” but not “onto.”
5. To draw the graph of sin−1x , using the graph of sin x and demonstrate the concept of
mirror reflection (about the line y = x).
6. To explore the principal value of the function sin–1x using a unit circle.
7. To find analytically the limit of a function f (x) at x = c and also to check the continuity of
the function at that point.
8. To verify that for a function f to be continuous at given point x0 ,
∆y = |f(x0 + ∆x) − f(x0) |is arbitrarily small provided ∆x is sufficiently small.
9. To verify Rolle’s Theorem.
10. To illustrate the concepts of decreasing and increasing functions.
11. To illustrate the concepts of absolute maximum and minimum values of a function in a
given closed interval through its graph.
12. To construct an open box of maximum volume from a given rectangular sheet by cutting
equal squares from each corner.
13. To verify that amongst all the rectangles of the same perimeter, the square has the
maximum area.
14. To evaluate the definite integral ∫ √ as the limit of a sum and verify it by actual
integration.
15. To verify geometrically that ⃗⃗ (⃗⃗⃗ + ⃗⃗⃗ ) =( ⃗⃗ ⃗⃗⃗ ) + (⃗⃗ ⃗⃗⃗ )
(NOTE: PERFORM ANY FIVE ACTIVITIES FROM THE ABOVE MENTIONED TOPICS)
Kindly follow the following pattern while performing and recording your
project activity.
COMPONENTS OF PROJECT ACTIVITY
1. OBJECTIVE
2. MATERIALS REQUIRED
3. METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION
4. DEMONSTRATION
5. OBSERVATION
6. APPLICATION
The Project Activities must be performed and recorded in a SHOELACE FILE.
The last date of submission of your Project is 30th JULY 2023.
Your Evaluation Factors
1. Identification and statement of Project: 1 mark
2. Write up of Project: 2 marks
3. Procedure Adopted: 2 marks
4. Interpretation of results: 1 mark
5. Creativity and Presentation: 2 marks
6. VIVA: 2 marks
The basic principles of learning mathematics by performing the project are :
(a) Learning will be related to each student individually.
(b) The need for mathematics will develop from an intimate acquaintance
with the environment via the project.
(c) The student will become active and interested.
(d) Concrete material and wide variety of illustrations will aid the learning process.
(e) Understanding will be encouraged at each stage of acquiring a particular skill via the project.
(f) Content will be broadly based with adequate appreciation of the links between the
various branches of mathematics enabling development of practical knowledge.
(g) Correct mathematical usage will become understandable at all stages.
