1.
CLASSROOM SETTING
Top student Tuquib stares down at her grade in disbelief,
a mocking mark of 99.5, painted in tauntingly bright red,
that seemed to take a blow at her pride of being the top
student of her class. As soon as Sir Archival dismisses
the class, she races straight towards him to hound him
about her shameful final grade.
TUQUIB
Sir, why is my accumulated grade just a 99.5? I
could’ve sworn I’ve gotten every item right for every
quiz and even on our major exams!
ARCHIVAL
Oh Miss Tuquib! It’s a such a shame really, I had high
expectations for you especially since you’re the only
student in your class who managed to solve logarithmic
functions!
TUQUIB
If that’s the case sir, then why don’t I have a 100?
ARCHIVAL
You unfortunately didn’t follow the instructions
given.
Archival hands her her testpaper, Tuquib snatches it out
his hands while her eyes agitatedly scanned the
instructions written on the top of the paper. Then, her
calculus teacher suddenly pointed to a portion of the
paper with his finger.
ARCHIVAL
You forgot to write your name.
*a brief moment of silence*
TUQUIB
Oh
ARCHIVAL
Tell you what, why don’t I give you an opportunity to
earn some extra credit? Why don’t you pick someone from
your class to personally tutor for the upcoming finals?
It’s a great way for you to earn yourself a perfect
score and to help out a struggling classmate. You can
choose whoever you’d like from your class.
Tuquib bit her lip anxiously, her head lost in thoughts,
contemplating whether to take the opportunity or not.
After a few seconds, she hesitatingly agreed.
TUQUIB
Alright sir, give me a week to choose someone of my
liking.
Unbeknownst to the both of them, there was a student
lurking outside the classroom they were in, eavesdropping
onto their conversation. Gerry, a fellow classmate of
Tuquib’s, who was ironically a failing student in
Calculus. After listening in to their agreement, Gerry
felt a lightbulb illuminate above his head; He had an
idea—he should be the one that Tuquib tutors in order for
him to finally get a passing grade. However, problem was
that both he and Tuquib weren’t exactly the best of
friends. Rather Tuquib found him irritating and avoided
him at all costs. However that won’t stop the determined
Gerry, because he had to grab the opportunity to get good
scores in Calculus.
(You Belong With Me instrumental starts to play)
2. OUTSIDE CLASSROOM (SITTING AREA)
Gerry watches Tuquib writing down notes from afar behind
a pillar, wondering how to persuade her to tutor him.
GERRY
(singing--)
YOU’RE ON YOUR NOTES LEARNING
THEOREMS FOR THE QUIZ
LIKE HOW THE LIMIT OF A
CONSTANT IS ITSELF
I’LL NEVER, MASTER RADICALS
LIKE SHE DOES
The school bell rings, signaling the start of class.
Students flock together to go inside their respective
classrooms. Inside a certain room, you can find Tuquib
diligently taking down notes, while on the other hand,
Gerry can be found comically dumbfounded by the new
lessons.
GERRY
(singing--)
WE’RE IN THE ROOM, LEARNING
LIMIT PROCESSES
APPROACH FROM BOTH SIDES, THE
RIGHT AND LEFT BOTH MEET
AND I’LL DREAM OF Y-
DERIVATIVES IN MY SLEEP
Scene changes to Tuquib receiving her (obvious) score of
a 100, while Gerry pitifully got a 16. Satisfaction can
be found in one face while despair in another.
GERRY
(singing--)
BUT SHE GOT A HUNDRED WHILE
I GOT SIXTEEN
SHE’S TOP STUDENT, WHILE I’M
A DYSCALCULIAC
GERRY
(singing--)
HANGING ON A THREAD ‘CUZ
I DON’T WANNA FAIL
SO YOU SHOULD HELP ME FIND,
FUNCTION DY/DX
3. OUTSIDE (HALLWAYS)
Gerry follows behind Tuquib, who’s oblivious to him
behind her due to her wearing headphones and blasting
loud music, humorously silently begging behind her back.
Even using a broom as a pretend microphone as he silently
follows her.
GERRY
(singing--)
IF YOU CAN SEE THAT I’M THE
ONE WHO CAN HELP YOU
EARN YOUR EXTRA CREDIT
SO, WHY CAN’T YOU PICK ME?
YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME
PLEASE TUTOR ME
4. CLASSROOM (INSIDE)
Teacher Archival writes down on the black board the
formula on how to find the product of two given functions
d
(( f ( x)g ( x)=f '( x )g( x)+ g ' (x ) f ( x)). Expectedly, this no
dx
challenge at all for top student Tuquib, who got the gist
of it first try. The same couldn’t be said on the
otherhand for Gerry, who’s dumbfounded face could be seen
thinking, “where tf did that come from?”
GERRY
(singing--)
NOW WE’RE LEARNING TO MULTIPLY
TWO FUNCTIONS
APPLYING THE RULE WHERE F-PRIME
TIMES G
ADDING TO IT, FUNCTION
G-PRIME TIMES F.
GOD THIS ISN’T EASY!
5. CLASS DESKS
Tuquib can be seen helping her classmates asking her help
on what the L’Hopital’s Rule was. Camera pans to Gerry,
sitting on the opposite desk on the right, looking at
them from his chair. Questions marks can be seen dancing
around his head as he tries to understand the Rule on his
own.
GERRY
(singing--)
AND YOU’VE GOT A BRAIN THAT
COULD RECOGNIZE L’HOPITAL’S RULE
APPROACH FROM BOTH SIDES THE LEFT
AND RIGHT BOTH MEET
BASIC APPROACH TO EVALUATE INDEFINITES
YOU SAY IT’S SIMPLE BUT WHAT ABOUT ME?
HEY, IT’S HARD FOR A MATH
DYSLEXIC LIKE ME
6. CLASSROOM (BLACKBOARD)
The list of grade rankings were posted on a paper stuck
to the blackboard. At the first spot lay the name
“Shiaden Rhim Tuquib” in big, bold letters. While on the
last ranking sadly Gerry’s name could be found.
GERRY
(singing--)
SHE’S HIGH HONORS
I’M ROCK BOTTOM
GRADES ARE HER PRIDE, WHILE
MINE HUMBLED ME
HANGING ON A THREAD CUZ I
DON’T WANNA FAIL SO
HELP ME FIND THIS EXPONENTIAL SLOPE
7. RANDOM SCENERY
Same scenario with scene 3, expect change location or
angles of camera perhaps.
GERRY
(singing--)
IF YOU COULD SEE THAT I’M
THE ONE THAT COULD HELP YOU
EARN YOUR EXTRA CREDIT
SO, WHY CAN’T YOU PICK ME?
YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME
STANDING BY AND WAITING AT
YOUR CLASS DESK
PROMISE I WILL LEARN
TO GRAPH TANGENT SLOPES
SO YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME
PLEASE TUTOR ME
8. SCHOOL RAILINGS
Gerry leans against the school railings (pina maoy 2)
GERRY
(singing--)
OH HOW CAN I RECALL THE FORMAL
DEFINITION OF CALC’ DERIVATIVES
I’M DROWNING IN ALL MY NOTES
FEEL LIKE I’M ABOUT TO CRY
AND YOU’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE
WHO CAN HELP YOU REACH YOUR DREAMS
THINK I KNOW WHO YOU SHOULD CHOOSE
THINK I KNOW IT SHOULD BE ME
9. CLASSROOM
Camera pans to Tuquib’s phone screen, showing a text from
her teacher, Sir Archival, asking if she choose someone
of her choice already. Tuquib looked perplexed as she
read the message, hand buried in her hair as she thought
long and hard who her choice should be.
GERRY
(singing--)
CAN’T YOU SEE THAT I;M THE ONE
WHO CAN HELP YOU
BEEN HERE ALL ALONG
SO WHY CAN’T YOU PICK ME?
YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME
Gerry appears beside her desk kneeling in front of it.
Hands clasp together, pleading in desperation.
GERRY
(singing--)
STANDING BY AND BEGGING AT YOUR
CLASS DESK
PROMISE I WILL LEARN TO GRAPH
TANGENT SLOPES
SO YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME
PLEASE TUTOR ME
Camera pans to Tuquib finally agreeing to tutor Gerry in
resignation. Then, camera pans again to Gerry grinning in
triumph, moving to stand up and sit down on the chair
next to her so that they may begin their first lesson.
GERRY
(singing--)(softly)
YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT JUST MAYBE
THAT YOU SHOULD TUTOR ME?
PLEASE TUTOR ME
10. OUTSIDE CLASSROM (TIMESKIP)
Scene fades to black, transitioning into a timeskip.
Tuquib can be seen walking down the long hallway by her
self. Stopping in her tracks when she heard a familiar
voice.
GERRY
(yells)
TUQUIB!
Tuquib turns back to find Gerry waving at her excitedly.
He suddenly dug his hands into his pocket, searching for
something. He took out a scrunched up piece of paper,
opening it to show it to Tuquib. On the paper, in big
highlighted letters, read the word “PASSED!”. Scene ends
to Gerry skipping over to Tuquib, as soon as he reached
her they began chatting as they continued to walk
together. Scene fades to black.
