AA Series Spectrometers Installation Checklist

Thank you for purchasing an Agilent instrument solution. This checklist is used by the installing
engineer to ensure that the instrument and associated systems are correctly installed, upgraded and
functioning as designed in your facility. This checklist will be completed at the end of the service and
provided to you as a record of the installation.

Customer Information
• Customers should provide all necessary operating supplies upon request of the engineer.

Service Engineer's Responsibilities


• Only complete/print pages that relate to the system being installed.
• Complete empty fields with the relevant information.
• Complete the relevant check boxes in the checklist using a "X" or tick mark "" in the check box.
• Complete Not Applicable check boxes to indicate services not delivered, as needed.
• Complete the Service Review section together with the customer.
• Verify that the installation site is correctly prepared and that the customer has provided the required
facilities and conditions for operating the instrument.

register the software directly via the Internet, or from another computer that has access to the
internet. If you do not register before the trial period expires, you will no longer have access to the
software (not applicable for 50/55 Series AA instruments unless the software option has been
purchased).

General Preparation
 Unpack/verify the condition and completeness of shipment. For discrepancies, use the below table.

 Environmental conditions
 Laboratory is free of excessive particulate matter.
 Laboratory temperature is maintained between 20 and 25 °C (68 and 77 °F).
 Laboratory relative humidity is maintained between 8 and 80% (non-condensing).
 Workbench
 The workbench is stable and strong enough to support the total weight of the equipment to be
used.
 The benchtop is large enough to permit a free circulation of air around the main instrument and
each of the accessories.
 The workbench is free from drafts.
 The workbench is free from corrosive atmospheres.

 Air exhaust
 The supplied exhaust system is suitable for use with the instrument.
 An exhaust fan control switch and running indicator lamp have been provided in suitable
proximity to the instrument.
 Mains power
 3-wire outlets with ground connection, adequately rated for the intended loads as specified in the
requirements of the Agilent site preparation document and in compliance with both local and
national regulations have been supplied.
 A separate connection receptacle has been provided for each unit in the system.
 The outlets are located in suitable proximity to the instrument/computer/accessories.
 The outlet supply voltage for the instrument has been measured and recorded in the below table.
 The outlet supply voltage for the computer has been measured and recorded in the below table.
 For Flame installations
 Air supply
 The air supply system has been provided (at specified pressures, flows and purities) as specified
in the requirements of the Agilent site preparation document and in compliance with both local
and national regulations.
 The air outlet is within 1.5 m (5 ft) of the instrument.
 A stop/isolation valve and pressure gauge have been provided in suitable proximity to the
instrument operator.
 The air pressure at the supply outlet to the instrument has been measured and recorded in the
below table.
 Acetylene supply
 The acetylene supply system has been provided (at specified pressures, flows and purities) as
specified in the requirements of the Agilent site preparation document and in compliance with
both local and national regulations.
 The acetylene outlet is within 1.5 m (5 ft) of the instrument.
 A stop/isolation valve and pressure gauge have been provided in suitable proximity to the
instrument operator.
 The acetylene pressure at the supply outlet to the instrument has been measured and recorded in
the below table.
 Nitrous oxide supply
 The Nitrous oxide supply system has been provided (at specified pressures, flows and purities) as
specified in the requirements of the Agilent site preparation document and in compliance with
both local and national regulations.
 The nitrous oxide outlet is within 1.5 m (5 ft) of the instrument.
 A stop/isolation valve and pressure gauge have been provided in suitable proximity to the
instrument operator.
 The nitrous oxide pressure at the supply outlet to the instrument has been measured and
recorded in the below table.

 For Furnace installations


 Install the Graphite Tube Atomizer (GTA)
 Install the Programmable Sample Dispenser (PSD) (if applicable)
 Waste container
 A suitable shatterproof waste container appropriate for the chemical waste has been provided.
 Computer and peripherals
 A computer as specified in the requirements of the Agilent site preparation document has been
supplied.
 A suitable Microsoft™ Windows™ operating system as specified in the requirements of the
Agilent site preparation document has been supplied.
 A printer (complete with cables/fittings) suitable for use on the supplied computer has been
supplied.

Position the Computer and Instrument Components


 Place the computer on the workbench.

Install the Software (mark as N/A where not applicable)


This procedure assumes that you are working on a clean, empty hard disk. If your customer has any
other files on the computer hard disk, ask the customer to make backups of these. Agilent will not
assume responsibility for loss of data files or third party software.

 Install Microsoft Windows operating system


 Install printer
 Install SpectrAA Base software
 Install SpectrAA Help software
 Install SpectrAA Pro software (optional)
 Install SpectrAA CFR software (optional)
 Install National Instruments PCI-GPIB card
 Set up system for Duo operation (if applicable)
 Install installation (testing) software OR validation software

Install the Hardware (mark as N/A where not applicable)


 Check/set the voltage selection switches and fuses to suit the local voltage supply.
 Check/set the computer power module line voltage selector switch (if applicable) to suit local
nominal line voltage.
 Connect power cords to the computer and instrument but do not switch on the computer or
instrument.
 Connect the instrument air supply hose (black) to the air outlet.
 Ensure there is no air leakage.
 Connect the instrument acetylene supply hose (red) to the acetylene outlet.
 Ensure there is no acetylene leakage.
 Connect the instrument nitrous oxide supply hose (blue) to the nitrous oxide outlet.
 Ensure there is no nitrous oxide leakage.
 Install the sample introduction system.
 Install the instrument chimney.
 Install the instrument flame shield.
 If any accessories are included in the order, install them as appropriate.

 Customer's software has NOT been registered yet, but the customer has been advised that
registration and activation must be completed within 60 days of installation (before the trial period
expires) and that failure to do so will mean they no longer have access to the software.

Test Instrument Functionality


Analytical results will depend on proper use of the instrument and proper sample preparation. Consult
the user's guide or online Help for procedures. Accuracy depends also on cleanliness of containers,
instrument optimization (gas mix, nebulizer uptake, probe position, etc.). Consumables, including tubing
and capillaries, can also affect accuracy and reproducibility.

 The Agilent standard installation tests have been successfully completed.


 Full Agilent Compliance Services (e.g., IQ/OQ) has been performed (optional).
 The printed reports have been attached to this checklist.

Service Review
 Attach available reports/printouts to this documentation.
 Record the time/date of installation or upgrade completion in the customer's records/logbook.
 Complete the below Service Review Comments section if there are additional comments.
 Review the installation/upgrade with the customer.
 Explain the Agilent warranty for instruments.
 Familiarization — per the attached checklist.
 Explain how to get self-help, FAQs from the Web.
 Explain how to log an instrument service call, support services available.
 Discuss the advantage of professional preventative maintenance by Agilent on a regular basis.
 Advise the customer of additional instrument training options.
If the instrument firmware was updated, record the details of the change in the below Service
Engineer's Comments box, or if necessary, in the customer's IQ records.
