1. SCOPE

1.1 The scope of the Standard Specification is to define the requirements of gaskets for flanges,
spades and spacers, Valves and fittings that the suppliers have to comply with. The following
definitions shall apply to this specification.

1.2 Deviation(s), if any, shall be clearly highlighted in the quotation itself.

shall mean approved in writing by the Purchaser.

2. APPLICABILITY STANDARDS AND PUBLICATIONS

All work shall comply with the applicable standards and publications listed in this section.

Users shall meet or exceed the requirements of the following codes, regulations and standards. In cases
where more than one code, regulation or standard apply to the same condition, the most stringent shall be
used in the design, fabrication and testing of pressure piping systems unless otherwise approved in writing
by the Purchaser.

3. DOCUMENTATION

3.1 Vendors shall furnish the following during submission of vendor’s offer:
 If the item is regretted or has no deviation, the manufacturer shall write clearly against item as “REGRET” or “NO
DEVIATION”. Item(s) for which no comment has been provided by vendor, shall mean that the item is regretted
by vendor & shall not be considered for further technical evaluation.
 For subject notes or technical notes (wherever applicable) specified, if there is any technical deviation, the same
shall be listed clause wise. Even clauses which are acceptable shall be categorically confirmed as “Accepted”.
 Vendor shall furnish quotations only for those items, for which he can supply strictly as per MR specifications
including fulfilment of Qualification Criteria as per MR. Vendor to note that no correspondence shall be entered
into or entertained after the bid submission.
 Vendor to submit previous track reports of projects (if requested), in tabulated format clearly specifying size,
MOC, rating, end connection & special requirements (wherever specified) with order received details like name
of client, year of supply etc. Vendor to submit supporting documents like purchase order, inspection release
notes, order completion certification etc. along with the offer. Offer will not be considered for any further
technical evaluation, if vendor will not submit previous track along with the offer.
 For technical clauses, which are not applicable to vendor, Vendor shall clearly indicate “NOT APPLICABLE”.
 Vendor shall submit technical notes and other applicable technical documents of the tender duly stamped &
signed. Also, if vendor is complying to technical requirements of a document in totality, Vendor shall write “Total
Technical Compliance” on document on title sheet / header of the document.
 Vendor to note that deviations shall be provided / furnished strictly as per specified format only. Vendor to note
that deviations marked / written elsewhere shall not be considered.
 On failure to compliance to clauses under 3.1, the offer is likely to be rejected.

4. GENERAL

4.1 This specification, together with the Purchase requisition / Order, all documents referenced in the
Requisition/ Order and the Company’s / Client’s conditions of order covers the requirements of the
supply of Gaskets for steel flanges, spades and spacers, Valves and fittings.

4.2 The term “Gasket” includes compressed fibre Gaskets, Spiral wound Gaskets, Octagonal ring Gaskets,
and non-metallic Gaskets. Use of Asbestos material in any form is unacceptable as per company’s HSE
guidelines.

4.3 All PTFE gaskets shall be single piece construction and shall not be made from recycled PTFE.

4.4 PTFE gaskets shall start from Virgin PTFE before any additives are added.

4.5 Where provided all Graphite type Gaskets shall comply with the following:

- Flexible Graphite, 98% Purity (ash content maximum 2%)

- Leachable Chloride & Fluorides content maximum, 50 ppm

- Corrosion Inhibitor, as appropriate

- No additional materials (e.g. Binders, Fillers)

4.6 Vendor shall supply recommended Bolt torques per type & Nominal Pipe Size.

4.7 Full face gaskets shall have bolt holes punched out.

4.8 Graphite filler for spiral wound gaskets shall have not any colour or dye.

4.9 In case of RTJ gaskets, only octagonal section ring gaskets shall be allowed and shall have proper
marking stamped. Material certificate shall be available for the gasket.

4.10 CONFLICTING REQUIREMENTS

4.10.1 Any conflict between requirement of this specification, Purchase Data sheets and related Documents
shall be referred back to the Company for Approval, at the Bid stage.

4.11 SUPPLIER’S ALTERNATIVES

4.11.1 Suppliers shall submit the specification of the alternative for approval at the bid stage, in case the
supplier wishes to supply equivalent / suitable alternative. Supplier should confirm M & Y value
matched to specified vendor tag. Alternatives will not be accepted during supply stage.

4.12 MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURE

4.12.1 Materials, make / style, dimensions and Manufacturing process of the gaskets shall be in accordance
with the Codes / Standards mentioned in the purchase requisition/ Order.

4.13 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

4.13.1 For Hydrogen, chlorine and other demanding services Vendor shall include all special quality checks
and inspection in the quality Plans.

4.13.2 Octagonal ring joint gasket shall confirm to ASME B16.20 & Brinell hardness shall be 120HB if not
specified in the description / quantity sheet.

4.13.3 Gasket shall be suitable for large tongue and groove flange wherever specified and dimension shall be
as per ASME B16.5.

4.13.4 Ring type & spiral wound gasket shall be of self-aligning type.

4.14 WORKMANSHIP, FINISH AND APPEARANCE

4.14.1 All gaskets shall be cleanly finished and when visually inspected shall be free from defects /
imperfections such as cracks, surface flaws, laminations etc.

4.14.2 All gaskets shall be clean of rust, foreign materials, scales, oil and grease.

4.15 TESTS

4.15.1 The following tests shall be carried out on the materials / Finished Items as prescribed in applicable
codes / standards.
a) Visual Examination
b) Chemical Composition / Product Analysis
c) Other NDT Tests

4.16 PRODUCT MARKING

4.16.1 Product marking shall include all other information as per Codes/ Standards.

4.16.2 Colour / Ink used for marking shall not contain harmful metal or metal salts that causes corrosive
attack either ordinarily or in service.

4.17 INSPECTION

4.17.1 Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order, it is the responsibility of the producer/ supplier to
perform all inspection requirements specified in the Codes/ standards/ Data sheets. The Company /
client shall have the right to perform any inspection and tests set forth in the specification.

4.17.2 Inspection and Test necessary to confirm that the products meet the requirements of the standards,
Specifications and of the Purchase Order shall be carried out in the Vendors Plant by the Vendors
specially trained Personnel.

4.17.3 Products that are to the specifications shall be guaranteed by inspection certificate, conformity
certificate, Material certificate, test certificates etc.

4.17.4 All inspection activities shall be listed in the quality plan. This quality plan shall be submitted for
approval.

4.17.5 PMI (Positive Material Identification) by alloy analyser to be carried out where specified.

4.18 EXTEND OF INSPECTION AND WITNESSING BY CLIENT/ CONSULTANT/ THIRD PARTY

4.18.1 Inspection and witnessing rate for all points listed in the quality plan shall be as follows

4.19 DOCUMENTATION

4.19.1 Certificate of Conformity: The Vendor shall submit a certificate of conformity with the standards
specified in the Purchase order.

4.19.2 Materials Certificate: The Vendor shall submit all material certificates pertaining to the results of
chemical analysis, mechanical tests, Non-destructive tests and Acceptance certificates, carried out in
accordance with the requirements of the codes/ standards, specified in the purchase order.

4.20 ACCEPTANCE

4.20.1 Inspection department shall not release the materials unless all the required certificates are
submitted and approved.

4.21 PREPARATION, PACKING AND FORWARDING

4.21.1 All items shall be dry, clean and free of moisture, dirt, and loose foreign materials.

4.21.2 All items shall be protected from rust, corrosion and any mechanical damage during transportation,
shipment and storage.

4.21.3 Rust preventive coats shall be applied on machined surfaces, which is not harmful to the material,
welding etc. Coating shall be easily removable with a petroleum solvent.

5. RECORDS

Supplier shall compile a Test report manual, comprising of all Test reports, Inspection reports, Acceptance report and

shall submit along with the supplies.
