ENGINEERING DRAWING I (SECTION C) MARKING SCHEME

GUIDE TO ASSIGNING MARKS TO QUESTION 5.


(a)
(i) Tools in the draw tool bar/ribbon of AutoCAD include any of the following:
Line, polyline, circle, arc, rectangle, polygon, ellipse and hatch.

Tools in the modify tool bar/ribbon of AutoCAD include any of the following:
Move, rotate, erase, explode, mirror, copy, trim, extend, fillet, chamfer, blend curves,
stretch, offset and array.
Score 0.5 mark for each mention (maximum of THREE mentions for each tool bar).
TOTAL MARKS OBTAINABLE FOR (i) = 3 MARKS

(ii) Line tool: this tool creates single line segments (1 mark). Add additional 0.5 mark if
the symbol of the line tool is drawn.
Polyline tool: this tool creates a 2D line which is a connected sequence of segments
created as a single planar object (1 mark). Add additional 0.5 mark if the symbol of the
line tool is drawn.
TOTAL MARKS OBTAINABLE FOR (ii) = 3 MARKS

The thread representation used in Figure 2 is called detailed representation. (2 marks)
(iii)
For the isometric thread with specification: M10 X 1.5, means the ISO metric thread has a
diameter of 10 mm (3 marks) and a thread pitch of 1.5 mm (3 marks). TOTAL MARKS
OBTAINABLE FOR (iii) = 6 MARKS

(a)
Any three of the following:
✓ Centre, Radius (creates a circle using a centre point and a radius)
✓ Centre, Diameter (creates a circle using a centre point and a diameter)
✓ 2 points (creates a circle using two endpoints of the diameter)
✓ 3 points (creates a circle using three points on the circumference)
✓ Tan, Tan, Radius (creates a circle with a specified radius tangent to two objects)
✓ Tan, Tan, Tan (creates a circle tangent to three objects)
Score 1 mark for each correct answer (maximum of THREE ways) additional 2 marks for
correct brief explanation/description as shown above in parentheses. TOTAL MARKS
OBTAINABLE FOR (a) = 5 MARKS

SCORE FULL MARKS IF THE FOLLOWING RULES ARE FOLLOWED:
the section hatch in the adjacent parts should be drawn in opposing directions as shown in
the figure below
In the largest area, section hatch are drawn at 45° (1.5 marks)
Next largest = 135° (- 45o) (1.5 marks)
For additional areas = 30° or 60° in alternate directions (1.5 mark each = sub-total of 3
Marks)
For smaller areas = the distance between the section hatch may also be varied to further
distinguish between parts.

Additional scoring for drafting: Line/Pencil work = 3 marks


Neatness = 1 mark
TOTAL MARKS OBTAINABLE FOR (i) = 10 MARKS
(ii)
Additional info: Gib-head sunk keys are rectangular keys with a head at one end known as a
Gib-head. It is usually provided to facilitate the removal of the key. Sunk keys generally are
keys whose one-half is in the keyway of the shaft and the other half in the keyway of the hub of
the rotating element. Any of the sketches below is correct.

Score using the following:


Correctness of diagram (Gib-head key) = 2 Mark
Additional info: 1 mark
Line/Pencil work = 1 mark
Neatness = 1 mark
TOTAL MARKS OBTAINABLE FOR (ii) = 5 MARKS
