ASSIGNMENT QUESTION
GROUP ASSIGNMENT (20%)
Planning and Scheduling A Construction Project
Construction project management involves directing and organizing each part of the
project life cycle, from ideation to completion. It’s a holistic practice with the goal of
delivering projects on time and under budget. Construction project management is a complex
discipline that requires addressing many important concerns, including cost control,
scheduling, procurement, and risk assessment. Planning, scheduling is an important part of
the construction management. Planning and scheduling of construction activities helps
engineers to complete the project in time and within the budget. The term ‘Construction’ does
not only denote physical activities involving men, materials and machinery but also covers
the entire gamut of activities from conception to realization of a construction project. Thus,
management of resources such as men, materials, machinery requires effective planning and
scheduling of each activity.
As a contractor for a project, you must target your project to complete on time, with
acceptable quality and to get reasonable profit. Prepare a GANTT CHART for a project.
Gantt chart is a graphical representation of tasks as segments on a time scale. It helps plan
and monitor project development or resource allocation. There is list of tasks, project
milestones and stages. Details of the project as shown in Table 1.
