3.0 DESIGN SPECIFICATION
Based on the case study, a new centrifugal pump is developed with the required
parameters, such as a 10 m difference between the river and tank water levels, a pipe with a
diameter of 0.5 m and a length of 20 m, and a volume flow rate of 0.573 m3/s. In table 3.0,
the pump's parameter is displayed and used as a reference for designing the pump.

The pipe is made of polyvinyl chloride or vinyl (PVC). PVC was chosen as a material
because it can withstand environmental pressure, is rust-resistant, and does not quickly
corrode. Because it has great casting properties, high machinability, strong wear resistance,
and good vibration damping, grey cast iron was chosen as the material for the pump. The
design will comprise one entry, one exit, one swing check valve, one completely open gate
valve, and five threaded long radius 900 elbows. A swing check valve is mounted on a disc
that swings on a hinge or shaft. A disc that swings on a hinge or shaft is used to install a
swing check valve. When the flow is stopped, the disc swings back onto the seat to impede
backward flow. The disc swings off the seat to enable forward flow. When the gate valve is
fully open, unlike other kinds of valves, its body has a straight-through shape that does not
alter the direction of flow, allowing fluid to pass through the valve without encountering any
resistance.
