GIANT DATABASES SUBSCRIBED BY MUST

Preamble: To supplement the existing collections, Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) has subscribed to major
databases such as EBSCOhost, Emerald, and Research4Life (R4L). MUST Staff and students are thus strongly encouraged to make
full use of them.

1. EBSCOhost

EBSCOhost is a powerful online reference system accessible via the Internet. It offers a variety of proprietary full text databases and
popular databases from leading information providers.

Moreover, the EBSCOhost interface provides access to a range of databases, e-journals and e- books. The databases are particularly
useful for identifying journal articles and other publications on a particular topic within the subject areas covered by each database. You
can also search across more than one database at a time.

EBSCOhost is also considered as the leading provider of research databases, e-journal and e-package subscription management, book
collection development and acquisition management, and a major provider of library technology, e-books and clinical decision solutions
for universities, colleges, hospitals, corporations, government, K12 schools and public libraries worldwide.

eBook Academic Collection (EBSCOhost)

This growing subscription package contains a large selection of multidisciplinary eBook titles representing a broad range of academic
subject matter, and is a strong complement for any academic collection. The breadth of information available through this package
ensures that users will have access to information relevant to their research needs.

eBook Open Access (OA) Collection (EBSCOhost)

A multidisciplinary collection of eBooks, created in cooperation with university presses and scholarly publishers in the Open Access
model. The collection offers access to thousands of titles on various topics, without DRM (digital rights management) restrictions.

Academic Search Complete

Academic Search Complete is the worlds most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more
than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing
and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications including monographs, reports, conference
proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable)
PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,400 journals.

Open Dissertations

Open Dissertations is an open-access database built to assist researchers in locating both historic and contemporary dissertations and
theses. Created with the generous support of the H.W. Wilson Foundation and the Congregational Library & Archives in Boston, it
incorporates EBSCO’s previously released American Doctoral Dissertations, and features additional dissertation metadata contributed by
select colleges and universities from around the world.

MUST Library patrons may use this credential to access the EBSCOhost database from within the university's IP range.

Emerald Publishing is one of the world's leading digital first publishers, commissioning, curating and showcasing research that can make

With Emerald, MUST Library users are able to browse over 4,000 eBook titles and a portfolio of over 300 journals authored by
renowned academics and industry leaders from over 150 countries.

people in practice work together to make a positive change in the real world.

Emerald was named as Independent Publisher of the Year 2020 (IPY 2020).

To access the Emerald database, click the following link: [Link]

Emerald can be accessed via a university IP address (via the university network).
Users who wish to access this database from outside the University's IP range must first create their own Username and Password.

Important steps to create a username and password for accessing the Emerald database

i. Type the Emerald URL link in your search bar: [Link]


ii. On the homepage, at [Link]/insight, select "Register for a Profile."
iii. Enter the compulsory information, which is your name, personal email address, and Organization Access Number (OAN)
(114999633673626).
iv. Tick to agree to the T’s & C’s and Privacy Policy, then click "Register."
v. You will then receive an email asking you to activate your account.
vi. Click the "login" link. You will then be directed to a welcome page, where you will need to create and confirm your
password.
vii. After assigning a password, click "Continue."
viii. You will then be taken to the Emerald Insight homepage and be authenticated for access to the Emerald subscriptions.
ix. You can begin your search using the search bar. Results can be streamed to "Only content I have access to" on the results
page itself.

It is worth noting that the above steps take nearly three (3) minutes to complete.

3. Research4Life (R4L)

Research4Life provides institutions in lower income countries with online access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content.
R4L is aimed at improving teaching, research and policy-making in health, agriculture, the environment and other life, physical and
social sciences.

Research4Life is the collective name for five programmes;

1. Research in Health (Hinari),


2. Research in Agriculture (AGORA),
3. Research in the Environment (OARE),
4. Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI)
5. Research for Global Justice (GOALI)

The five programmes have provided researchers at more than 9,000 institutions in more than 120 low- and middle-income countries with
free or low-cost online access to up 100,400 leading journals and books in the fields of health, agriculture, environment, applied sciences
and legal information.
