Realistic Rabbit Crochet Pattern
Honey Bunny is a
super cute free to subscriber crochet rabbit pattern. This project works up rather quickly because it is made with
a size 9 crochet hook. She would be an adorable addition to an Easter basket or a great gift for anyone who
loves rabbits.

Both yarns are worked together for the entire project.
Materials*
3 skeins Lion Brand Romance® Yarn Weight Category: 6 – Super Bulky Weight: Bulky, Roving Yarn
1.75 oz./50 g (27 yd/25 m) Antique Lace
1 Skein Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice®worsted weight acrylic yarn (3.5 oz /170 yds/100g per skein)
White
Crochet Hook size N-13/9 mm
Lion Brand Split Ring Stitch Markers

Head
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 5 sc in second chain from hook. Mark first sc for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc into the first 2 sc, sc in 3 sc (7 sc)
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in each sc around (14 sc)
Rnds 4-5: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 1 sc, work 2 sc in the next sc; repeat from * (21 sc)
Rnds 7-8: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 10: *Sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * (14 sc)
Rnd 11: Sc in each sc around.
Depending on how tight you crochet, you might need to tighten up the stitches where the eyes will
be inserted. If using safety eyes, then attach now. Stuff.
Rnd 12: Dec 1 in each sc round (7 sc)
Sew back of head closed and weave in ends.
Ear (make 2)
Row 1: Ch 4, sc in the second, third and fourth ch from the hook (3 sc)
Row 2: Turn, ch1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in sc, 2 sc in last sc. (5 sc)
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc in each sc.
Row 4: Turn, ch1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc. (7sc)
Row 5: Turn, ch 1, sc in each sc.

Stuffing Assembling Note: The first step in creating a body that is most lifelike is to adjust the
opening. This means moving it from the center to being close to one end. The second step is stuffing.
Stuff the closed end more than the front end. This will create a hunch back and create a slightly lower
front for the head to rest.
Rnd 11: Ch 1, (sc in 2 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st to join with first sc. (15 sc)
Rnd 12: Ch 1, (sc in sc, sc2tog) around, slip st to join with first sc. (10 sc)
Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc into each sc, slp st to join with first sc.

Front Foot (make 2)
Rnd 1: Both yarns, chain 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. Mark first sc for beg of rnd; move marker
up each rnd. (6 sc)
Rnds 2- 4: Sc in each sc around.
Back Foot (make 2)
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place stitch marker (7 sc)
Rnds 2-3: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 4: Sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc. (5 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc. (4 sc)
Rnd 6: Sc2tog, twice

Assemble
Tip: Search for information and images of rabbits to help get the details right. The following is what I
learned and noticed.
Front feet have five toes.
Back feet have four toes.
The hair on the ears, face and feet is shorter than the hair on the body.
The ears are long triangles and the corners of the triangle base are folded into each other.
When project is complete, weave in yarn ends and trim.
1. Sew ears to head. Bring the corners of the triangle base together and sew into place then sew the
ears to the head. Trim ears. Use stencil brush to apply the pink pigment ink to the inside of the
ears
2. Add face details. If needle felting eyes, then do so now. Cut nose from felt and glue into place.
Use embroidery floss to add line under nose and add mouth.
3. Add toe details to feet. Use all strands of the Medium Dark Beaver Gray embroidery floss to
create the look of toes on the feet. The front feet have five toes and the back feet have four toes.
Stitch over the closed end of the feet adding the appropriate number of lines for the required
number of toes.
4. Sew to attach feet. The longer dimensions of the body are the sides and the end with the opening
is the front. Sew the front feet to the front end. When a rabbit is seated, the toes of the back feet
are approximately at the middle.
5. Sew head into place. The wrong placement of the head can cause the body not to sit properly due
to the weight of the head. That is why the head is attached after the feet to make it easier to
determine the optimal placement. Nestle head over opening of body and sew into place.
6. Sew to attach tail.
7. Add embellishment, such as a bow.
