Rhinovirus Overview and Symptoms

The rhinovirus is the most common cause of the common cold. It is a virus from the Picornaviridae family. Common symptoms of a cold caused by rhinovirus include stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, congestion, and headaches. While colds typically clear up within 7-10 days without treatment, sinus infections can sometimes develop from prolonged colds. There is no cure for the common cold since over 200 viruses can cause it, but symptoms can be relieved with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications.
