Introduction
The Foundation for Food Deserts (FFFD) is looking to expand the Human Resources
(HR) Department by adding four new team members. Currently, the HR Director is handling all
HR matters the foundation is facing. First, the FFFD will be hiring a Payroll Manger with the
main responsibility to handle payroll inconsistencies and all employment transitions involving
payroll. This hire will allow the Director to work on other projects instead of initiating payroll
every two weeks. Next, the FFFD will be advertising for the Recruitment Coordinator to aid the
department in advertising open positions and acquire qualified employees to fill them. Another
position the FFFD is hiring is the Administrative Assistant. This role’s main responsibility is to
support the other staff of the HR department. This position will help the HR team be able to
work on additional projects to recruit better employees and provide better service to current
employees. Finally, the Foundation will hire an Associate Director. The position works closely
with the director of HR in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies and
programs. The position also assists with the safety efforts for the foundation.
Payroll Manager
The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the Foundation’s payroll processes and
procedures. This individual will guarantee that all employees’ pay will be accurate and paid on
time (Society for Human Resources, n.d.).
Responsibilities:
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and
accurate processing of all payroll processes. Recommends any updates or changes to the
payroll processes and procedures (Society for Human Resource, n.d.).

Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll and benefits laws and
regulations.
Facilitates annual audits by providing any requested documentation to auditors.
The Foundation is looking for an individual who can work independently and efficiently.
This person should have three to five years of experience working in payroll as well as a
bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Recruitment Coordinator
As the Foundation for Food Deserts begins to grow, we need more staff to take on the
additional programs and families we are helping. The main purpose of this position is to assist
with the Human Resources talent acquisition strategy to aid and facilitate the recruitment
process. The primary task of this position is to effectively manage the recruitment cycle to ensure
the Foundation meets the staffing standards for our organization’s needs (Resources for
Employers. (n.d.-b).
Responsibilities:
Assist departments with writing and editing job descriptions and postings
Coordinates, schedules, and creates interview schedules, prepares all related
documentation and manages all logistics associated with candidate interviews
Verifies new employee’s pre-employment screening including scheduling drug screens
and reviewing background checks and references.
The Foundation is looking for a Recruitment Coordinator that is familiar with social media,
especially Linkedln (Resources for Employers. (n.d.-b)). This individual must have three to five
years of experience hiring individuals for a nonprofit or large organization as well as a bachelor's
degree in a related field.

Administrative Assistant
The Administrative Assistant will support the HR Department by providing a wide array
of administrative tasks. This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to
handle confidential HR information (Resources for Employers. (n.d.-a)).
Responsibilities:
Maintaining Employee Records
Assisting the Payroll Manager with bi-weekly payroll.
Coordinate HR projects, meetings and training seminars
Collaborate with the Recruitment Coordinator to post job ads and process incoming
resumes.
Address incoming inquiries by telephone and email accordingly.
Prepare reports and presentations for internal communications.
The individual who will fill this role will have hands-on experience as an HR administrator
as well as having experience working with MS Office applications ((Resources for Employers.
(n.d.-a)). This individual will have at least two years of experience as well as an associate degree
from a credited community college.
Associate Director of Human Resources
The main role of the Associate Director is to coordinate HR policies and programs with
emphasis on the benefits and compensation areas as well as the safety coordinator. This position
works closely with the Director to create policies and programs that will create a better working
environment for the employees of the FFFD.

Develop, implement and control programs in a manner that ensures cost effectiveness,
market competitiveness and internal equity among employees.
Administer benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
Assist the HR director in the daily administration of other HR services as directed or
assigned.
This individual will have at least seven to ten years of experience in an HR department with
some supervisory experience. Additionally, he or she will have a bachelor's degree in a related
field. Further education could be substituted for some years of experience on a case-by-case
basis.
