Loading Calculated Results in tNavigator

This document discusses how to load calculated results into tNavigator from other models or simulations. Specifically: 1. Properties in *.EGRID, *.INIT, and *.UNRST format can be loaded if they have the same grid and active blocks as the base model in tNavigator. 2. Graphs in *.UNSMRY format from the same folder as the base model will load automatically. Graphs can also be manually loaded from other tNavigator model results. 3. Loaded properties and graphs will be visualized according to the timesteps and objects defined in the base model. Differences between loaded and base model results can be compared using user arithmetics. 4. Loading

How To Load Calculated Results

Training Tutorials 2017

Rock Flow Dynamics

What type of formats may be loaded into tNavigator? 2
If you have a model, loaded in tNavigator (let’s call it “base model”), you can load another
calculation results:

1. Properties. You can load calculation results of the following format:

*.EGRID,*.INIT, *UNRST, and analyze them in tNavigator graphic interface
together with “base model”.

2. GRAPHS .
• Graphs of *.UNSMRY format from the same folder, as “base model”, are
automatically loaded.
• You can load graphs from another tNavigator model calculation results.

A model opened in tNavigator (“base model”)

 Binary properties

 *.UNSMRY graphs

 tNavigator graphs

Properties visualization 3

If you have a model, loaded in tNavigator (“base model”), you can load properties in the format:
*.EGRID,*.INIT, *UNRST, and analyze them in tNavigator graphic interface together with the
“base model”.

These binary files should have been generated by tNavigator or another simulator, according to
the standard (*.EGRID,*.INIT, *UNRST ) format.

To view these properties in 2D and 3D successfully, they should have the same grid and the same
active blocks, as the “base model”. Often it can be a minor variation of the same model, or
another calculation of the same model.

A model opened in tNavigator (“base model”)

You can load property:
calculation results of
*.EGRID+
*.INIT+*.INSPEC and/or
*.UNRST+*.RSSPEC
format

 Standard format
 The same grid
 The same active blocks

How to load properties – frame 1 4

1. In tNavigator main window Simulation. Open, choose the model

SingleReservoirWells_for_load/[Link]
2. In the window with model Document. Load Results. Load Maps in Eclipse format and choose
the *.EGRID file.

4
How to load properties – frame 2 5

For initial properties upload, *.INIT and *.INSPEC files should be in the same folder, as *.EGRID
For calculated property models upload, *.UNRST and *.RSSPEC files should be in the same folder,
as *.EGRID

1. In Load Result dialogue press Apply

2. In Select Maps dialogue tick the properties you need and press Load

5
How to load properties – frame 3 6

1. See loaded properties in Grid Properties. M90 (res1): Initial and Calculated
2. Move time slider to see the model at different time steps
3. On the picture: loaded water saturation (SWAT) at 9 time step

6
How to load properties – frame 4 7

1. Run computations of the model and wait until the end

2. We can see Calculated properties in the Grid properties tab (Pressure for example)

7
How to load properties – frame 5 8

1. To compare loaded and tNavigator properties use User Arithmetics

2. User Maps. Map
3. Write in Arithmetic Command Line: res1_pressure-pressure
4. The difference between loaded pressure (res1_pressure) and the calculated pressure
(pressure) will be displayed at each step

8
Property Models. Important note! 9

All supported properties from binary files will be visualized. Timesteps, the same as in the “base
model”, will be visualized.

• On all loaded additional calculated properties you will see the wells from the base model , and
well data, events, colors and statuses will be from the base model. Only properties are loaded
from binary files!

• If there are different time steps in the loaded properties, absent in “base”, they will not be
visualized.

• If some “base model” time steps are missing in loaded property, the model for these steps will
be zero.

 HINT: not to get confused, always load calculations of the same or similar model, with the
same timesteps, the same wells, groups and other objects.

9
How to load GRAPHS – frame 1 10

If you have a model, loaded in tNavigator (“base model”, for example, [Link])
graphs of *.UNSMRY format with the same name and from the same folder are loaded
automatically. *.SMSPEC file with the same name should be also present in the same folder

10
How to load GRAPHS – frame 2 11

To see graphs:
1. Go to Graphs. Totals
2. Choose Groups. FIELD
3. Graphs: Oil total, Oil Total[E], Water total, Water Total[E]
4. [E] – the graphs from *.UNSMRY format
5. Compare results in graphs and tables (the results are almost the same, so
there is no difference on graphs)

11
How to load GRAPHS – frame 3 12

Analogously the graphs Rates, Pressure can be seen

1. Go to Graphs. Pressure
2. Choose Groups. FIELD
3. Graphs: [Link], [Link][E]
4. Compare results in graphs and tables
5. tNavigator results – solid line, [E] results – thin line

GRAPHS. How to compare models results – frame 1

We are going to compare results of 2 similar models with different phase permeabilities

Open and calculate m90_mod.data (it’s phase permeability curves are different from phase
permeability curves of base model)

To see graphs of two model results:
1. Go to Graphs. Totals
2. Choose Groups. FIELD
3. Graphs: Oil total, Oil Total[m90_mod.data], Water total, Water Total[m90_mod.data]
4. [m90_mod.data] – the graphs from m90_mod.data (are marked via markers)
5. Compare results in graphs and tables

You can load three, four or more model results simultaneously (they will be marked with different
markers)

15
GRAPHS. Important note! 16

ONLY graphs for wells and groups with the same names, as in “base model”, will be
visualized. Only timesteps, the same as in “base model”, will be visualized.

• If there are wells and groups in the loaded graphs, absent in “base”, they will not be
visualized.

• If there are different time steps in the loaded graphs, absent in “base”, they will not be
visualized.

• If some time steps in loaded graphs are missing, the data for them will be interpolated.

 HINT: not to get confused, always load calculations of the similar model, with the same
timesteps, the same wells, groups.
