Promoting proper waste disposal through the help of SSG and YES-O officers

Introduction;

In both urban and rural settings, solid waste disposal is a noxious and pervasive issue in many
developing nations. Numerous drains and canals are frequently used as open spaces to dump different
types of trash as a source of domestic organic and inorganic waste. Huge amounts of solid and rubbish
debris are being dumped into convenient landfills, open canals, and sewers because there are no
continuous garbage collecting facilities. As a result, they are no longer useful. Most of the materials in
this debris include plastic, paper, and small amounts of hazardous material. The breakdown of these
harmful materials into their biodegradable components, however, poses a risk to the environment and
significantly raises the BOD levels in the local Eco-system.

International issues

The problem of solid waste is a controversial environmental issue in Southeast Asian countries,
including Malaysia. The increasing amount of waste generated, particularly in large cities like Kuala
Lumpur, has resulted in issues such as littering, untidy garbage bins, irregular waste collection, and
indiscriminate dumping. Despite efforts to address these issues, problems persist, such as the lack of
consistent and reliable data, substandard waste management systems, poor service levels, and
inadequate budgeting for waste management. Recycling remains a challenge. Solid waste management
is a challenging problem in Malaysia.

Accepting the fact of this international issues/studies presented, those large number of waste is not
good anymore. And we people should make an action for it.

National issue (Philippines)

In Metro Manila, there are major issues related to solid waste management, such as inappropriate
disposal of waste, ineffective collection methods, and insufficient disposal facilities. These issues need to
be addressed as the increasing amount of waste generated from various sources can cause health
hazards and have severe environmental impacts, including contamination of ground and surface water,
flooding, air pollution, and the spread of diseases. The amount of waste generated in Metro Manila is
already significant, with over 10,000 tons produced daily, and this figure is expected to double by 2030.
A large portion of the waste is openly burned, which worsens the already polluted air, or dumped in
bodies of water such as rivers, creeks, and Manila Bay.

Local issues (Davao city)

The successful implementation of MSWM systems depends on how well they can adapt to the
socio-economic conditions of the region. Davao City, the capital of the third-largest metropolitan area in
the Philippines, is a prime example of a city facing the challenges of rapid waste generation and
inadequate waste infrastructure. With a population projected to reach 1.7 million in 2017, the city
generates 991 tons of waste per day, which is expected to increase with population and economic
growth.

Questions

Why do you need to conduct this study?

The proper management of solid waste is a problem that affects the entire world, and it is also a
concern in our school, Vicenta C Nograles National High School. Addressing this issue would be
advantageous to many students and teachers. The researchers aim to encourage the correct disposal of
waste within our school and offer suggestions to enhance the overall cleanliness of the school
environment.

What do you want to obtain in this study?

The researchers aim to gain novel information and understanding on proper waste disposal, which has
been previously overlooked or misconstrued. For instance, they can explore waste management
practices on a global or national scale. By studying further, the researchers can uncover solutions to
improve waste disposal practices within our school. Such solutions can ultimately benefit future
students.
What method did you use?

The researchers utilized a quantitative research approach to monitor the quantity of waste being
discarded at Vicenta C Nograles National High School. This method enabled the researchers to observe
the perfect data closely.

Statement of the problem:

This research aims to answer the following research questions.

• What are the effective ways to improve proper waste disposal?

• What are the consequences of unfollowing solid waste disposal in our school?

• What are the ways to reduce the amount of waste that are being dumped

Significance of the study

This study, will be beneficial for the Students of Vicenta C Nograles National High School as it will
enhance their knowledge and teach them to be responsible in disposing of their trash in the appropriate
location. The study will also instill discipline among the students and create awareness of the
consequences that result from improper waste disposal.

The Information and impact presented in this study could prove beneficial to teachers. It would enable
them to effectively educate their students on the importance of proper waste disposal and raise
awareness about the negative outcomes associated with improper waste management.

The findings of this study are expected to have a positive impact on the school environment by
increasing the awareness of both students and teachers regarding proper waste disposal practices,
ultimately leading to a decrease in the amount of trash generated. The school is likely to adopt more
effective waste management practices as a result of this study, resulting in a cleaner and healthier
environment. Furthermore, the reputation of the school is likely to improve as a result of its
commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management.

By the help of this study, the people outside the school can gain knowledge about the proper disposal
of waste.
Objective of the study

The primarily purpose of this study, is to examine this challenging issue of solid waste issue in Vicenta C
Nograles National high-school. Furthermore, to reduce the effects of improper waste disposal. And to
promote a good environment in our school.
