Many people write a wrong description.

They mix the description with another information like


narrative text/narration (story) that does not describe the characteristics. To identify if it is a narration,
you can see the sentence will focus on the series of event (in Indonesian: rangkaian kejadian).

Exercise

Please examine these 8 texts which one is a pure descriptive text*, which one is not. If it is a pure
descriptive, you will write "yes". If it is not the pure descriptive, you will write "no" and give your reason
why it is not.

Example:

Text 1: Yes

Text 2: No

*A pure descriptive text means "Teks deskriptif murni"

Text 1:

I have a house. It was built in 1991. It has two floors and 5 bedrooms. I live there with my mother and
two brothers.

Text 2:

Today, there are many Skyscrapers. Based on Wikipedia, Skyscraper is defined as a continuously
habitable high-rise building that has over 40 floors and is taller than approximately 150 m (492 ft).

Text 3:

There is a civil engineer around the construction site. He wears a safety helmet, a green vest, and white
sneakers.

Text 4:

The civil engineer brings so many papers and documents. He is standing around the construction site. He
is so friendly. He also talks to many workers there.

Text 5:

I have a bag. It is my favorite bag. I bought it in London. It is very expensive and exclusive.

Text 6:
I have a bag. It is not so big. The color is brown with many zippers. The strap is black. It is made in
Indonesia.

Text 7:

Lake Toba is a large natural lake in North Sumatra, Indonesia, occupying the caldera of a supervolcano.
The lake is located in the middle of the northern part of the island of Sumatra, with a surface elevation
of about 900 metres (2,953 ft), the lake stretches from 2.88°N 98.52°E to 2.35°N 99.1°E. The lake is
about 100 kilometres (62 miles) long, 30 kilometres (19 mi) wide, and up to 505 metres (1,657 ft) deep.
