1 Site Supervisor / Unloading /  Check the consignment and ascertain that all the
Safety Preparation
materials and documents are available for
Supervisor executing the work.
 Conduct an insulation resistance test on each
individual raising main piece.
 Record Test readings in the Approved Format.
 Ensure that the Raising Mains remain clean and
dry through out the installation process, until the
joints are fully made and sealed to achieve the
required IP rating.
 Check that the intended route for the raising
mains is clear of all obstructions and that all
apertures in walls and floors are of correct size
and location.
 Ensure the vertical surface of wall where busduct
is to be mounted is level. Since the vertical

surface is unlikely to be at one level, the

supporting arrangement should have the flexibility
to absorb this variation.
Sl. No RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

2 Project Installation.  Mark the location & route of raising mains as per
Engineer / Site working drawing & as per isometric drawing
Supervisor / submitted by manufacturer.
Safety
 Apply and obtain installation permit from the
Supervisor
competent authorities.
 Install a 100mm up-stand or floor barrier around
the openings for Raising Mains in all floors to
prevent liquid spillages from entering the
openings & running down the Raising Mains.
 Fix all the supports as per details shown in the
Approved working drawings. Ensure that each
section of raising main is supported properly.
 Lower the raising main from the floor
immediately above which it will be installed, for
installing vertical sections, if that is the easier
option.
 Install the Raising main sections
 Align vertically and horizontally, before the final
tightening of all joints...
 Do not leave raising main sections unsupported at
ends while next section is being fitted as this
could cause damage. Use supports to ensure
Raising Mains remain correctly aligned at all
times.

3 Project Joint  Ensure that all contact surfaces are clean and free
Engineer / Site Assembly
of contaminants.
Supervisor /
 Align the ends of the Raising Main of two
Safety
Supervisor sections for jointing.
 Ensure proper phase alignment and slide the
sections together to get proper contact as shown in
drawing.
 Make sure all the Rising Mains, Joint connectors
and Insulators are correctly aligned.
 Fit joint cover plates ensuring that all fixing holes

align correctly

3 Project Joint  The joint may be set at "zero" (zero = 50mm

Engineer / Site Assembly between the end of the conductors,
Supervisor /  Centrally aligned across the joint) or upto ± 7mm
Safety
Supervisor if it is desired to achieve any adjustment to take
into account building or other tolerance. It may
be necessary to slacken screws securing factory
fitted joint assembly to obtain full degree of
adjustment. Re-tighten all screws afterwards.
 A check should be made during installation
ensuring that the raising main is being correctly
positioned along the length of the run as per
drawing.
 The main bolt should be tightened to its correct
torque by tightening the outer head until it breaks
off, using a long handle wrench with 19mm
socket
 If the joint bolt is subsequently loosened for any
reason it must be re-tightened using the inner head
and a torque indicating wrench set to the torque
given on the instruction label at the joint.
 The double headed joint bolt should not be
replaced since the joint bolt should not be
removed from the joint assembly under any
circumstances.
 Adequate care should be taken to ensure all gasket
and sealing components are correctly located and
that no damage has occurred to effect sealing
properties.
 Raising main should be properly covered during
installation to protect it from moisture or other
contaminants

4 Test Engineer / TESTING  After installation, carry out Meggering to get the
Project Engineer / following readings:
Supervisors
 Continuity of all Phases
 Insulation Resistance
a. Between conductors

Statement are followed at site.
 Ensure that all documents like O&M manuals,
Quality & Safety manuals are available at site.
