Ans: The gardener makes the speaker walk on

2. Is the gardener hardworking? How many


plants does the gardener work on?

Ans: Yes, the gardener is very hard working.


He works tirelessly throughout the day. While he is at his job, he doesn’t
indulge in any conversation or distract himself. He works sincerely towards
keeping the garden beautiful and well maintained. He takes care of his tools
after he is done.

3. Why does the gardener have to lay his


barrow down in the winter?

Ans: According to the poet, no matter how


hard gardener works to keep the garden well maintained and beautiful, once the
winter comes everything will become bare and brown. Since the garden would not
be green anymore and might not have plants to work on. He will run out of work,
therefore his tools along with barrow would be of no use.

4. What does the speaker want the gardener to


do instead of work?

Ans: The poet is a lonely child, who does not


have any playmates. He wishes to spend his summer vacations with fun and
frolic. Therefore, he wants the gardener to be his companion and play games
like Indian war with him.

the gardener. He makes it clear that the speaker is a child and does not understand why the
gardener works so hard and prefers to be quiet. The poet also praises the
gardener saying that he is hardworking.
