Invention of the Telephone Explained

The telephone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell, who was awarded the first patent for it. However, others had experimented with basic phone-like devices prior, including Italian inventor Antonio Meucci in 1849. The telephone allowed people to talk to each other over electrical wires for the first time. The first phone call was made by Bell on March 10, 1876 when he uttered "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you" in another room. The telephone revolutionized communication and its use expanded rapidly in subsequent decades.
