Project Proposal
1. Project Title: Too Good To Go Rwanda - Reducing Food Waste and Promoting Sustainability
Project Summary:
The Too Good To Go Rwanda project aims to address the issue of food waste in Rwanda by
developing a mobile app and web-based platform that connects businesses with surplus food to
consumers looking for affordable meals. The project will leverage technology to promote
sustainability, reduce food waste, and contribute to the development of a circular economy.
Project Objectives:
1. To reduce food waste in Rwanda by connecting businesses with surplus food to
consumers looking for affordable meals.
2. To promote sustainability and environmental awareness by reducing greenhouse gas
emissions associated with food waste.
3. To support the development of a circular economy by diverting edible food from the
landfill and promoting resource conservation.
Project Activities:
1. Research and Analysis: Conduct research on the food waste landscape in Rwanda,
including the amount of food wasted, the types of food wasted, and the reasons for food
waste. Analyze the data to identify key opportunities and challenges for the project.
2. Platform Development: Develop a mobile app and web-based platform that connects
businesses with surplus food to consumers looking for affordable meals. The platform
should include features such as user registration, location-based search, ordering and
payment, and rating and feedback.
3. Business Outreach: Reach out to restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and other food
businesses in Rwanda to promote the platform and encourage them to join. Provide
training and support to businesses on how to use the platform and reduce their food
waste.
4. User Outreach: Promote the platform to consumers in Rwanda through social media,
marketing campaigns, and other outreach activities. Provide incentives such as
discounts and promotions to encourage users to try the platform and share their
experiences.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the platform's performance and impact on food waste
reduction and sustainability. Evaluate the project's success based on key performance
indicators such as the number of businesses and users on the platform, the amount of
food diverted from the landfill, and user satisfaction.
Expected Results:
Reduced food waste in Rwanda through the diversion of edible food from the landfill to
consumers.
Increased sustainability and environmental awareness in Rwanda through the reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions associated with food waste.
Promotion of a circular economy in Rwanda by conserving resources and promoting the efficient
use of food.
2. Project Title: Student Attendance Management System Using Facial Recognition
Introduction:
The proposed project is a student attendance management system that uses facial recognition
technology to accurately and efficiently track student attendance in schools in Rwanda. The
system will help to reduce the administrative burden of manual attendance tracking, while also
providing a more accurate and reliable method of tracking student attendance.
Objectives:
The objectives of the project are as follows:
To develop a facial recognition system that can accurately identify students and track their
attendance.
To implement the system in schools in Rwanda, and test its effectiveness in tracking student
attendance.
To provide a more efficient and accurate method of tracking student attendance, which can be
easily accessed by teachers, administrators, and parents.
To help identify patterns of absenteeism and provide early intervention for students who may
need additional support.
Methodology:
The project will be implemented in several phases, as follows:
Phase 1: Requirements gathering and system design. This phase will involve identifying the
requirements for the system, including the hardware and software components required, and
designing the system architecture.
Phase 2: Development and testing. In this phase, the system will be developed and tested in a
controlled environment to ensure that it meets the requirements and is accurate in identifying
students and tracking attendance.
Phase 3: Implementation and deployment. The system will be deployed in selected schools in
Rwanda, and tested in a live environment to evaluate its effectiveness in tracking student
attendance.
Phase 4: Evaluation and refinement. Based on the results of the testing and feedback from
users, the system will be refined and improved as necessary.
Expected Outputs:
The expected outputs of the project are as follows:
A facial recognition system that can accurately identify students and track their attendance.
A web-based portal or mobile app that can be accessed by teachers, administrators, and
parents to view attendance records.
Reports on attendance patterns, which can be used to identify students who may need
additional support.
Improved efficiency and accuracy in tracking student attendance, which will reduce the
administrative burden on schools.
Conclusion:
The student attendance management system using facial recognition is a promising project that
has the potential to improve the efficiency and accuracy of attendance tracking in schools in
Rwanda. By identifying patterns of absenteeism and providing early intervention for students
who may need additional support, the system can also contribute to improving student
outcomes.
