Mobius (or Bilinear)
Transformation
Invariant or Fixed Points
• The points which coincide with their
transformations are called invariant points
of the transformation.
• Fixed points of a transformation
are obtain by
i.e.
Q. Find the fixed points of the bilinear
transformation
Sol. Here
In case of fixed points
i.e
i.e.
are the fixed points.
Ex.1 Find the bilinear transformation which maps the points z = 1,
-i, -1 to the points w = i, 0, -i respectively. Show also that
transformation maps the region outside the circle into
the half plane R(w)≥0
Example 2. Find a bilinear transformation which maps the points i, -i, 1
of the z plane into 0, 1, ∞ of the w-plane respectively
Example 3. Show that the transformation transform the unit circle into a
circle of radius unity in w-plane and find the centre of the circle.
