"In Toraja, people live with their parents and siblings until their old age. Do you think there are more
advantages or disadvantages to this behaviour? Discuss your opinion and provide specific reasons and
examples to support your answer.*

The culture of living with parents still applies in some countries. including in Indonesia, precisely the
part of the South Sulawesi region known as Toraja. there is no doubt that In Toraja, people live with
their parents and siblings until old age. this makes some teenagers who want to study abroad or
adults live with their parents after graduating from college and university or even after working so
they don't want to get out of their comfort zone. This essay will debate its advantages and
disadvantages.
firstly the advantage of living with parents and siblings is, where we get emotional support as young
people and adults, as we know when teaching careers either in study or work and through many
obstacles and in that situation one needs a family, secondly when living with our parents we can help
lighten the housework by sharing housework with other family members such as cleaning the house,
washing clothes and so on with the example of people in Toraja who still live with their parents and
siblings every morning can pick up vegetables for livestock pigs or getting up at dawn to do
housework such as washing dishes, sweeping and others before going to school. besides that,
Teenagers or Adults who live with their parents will get more experiences in their lives that help them
overcome problems in their lives. This is also a great support for parents. In their old age, young
people as well as adults will help and care for their parents.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of living with parents and siblings, one of the main
problems is "privacy" where a young child or adult will not have time for himself, meaning that even
young people or adults always depend on their parents For example, every time you experience
difficulties in friendship, which is a private thing for him, in the end, a child will report to his parents
or to his siblings, which in turn makes him feel burdened because he has involved his parents or
siblings in what is called "privacy" . then young people or adults are burdened with parental rules so
that the child will be burdened and face many difficulties in the future.
In conclusion, is that Toraja people who live with their parents and siblings can still feel that their
name is working, but on the other hand, the life they will go through is still dependent on their
parents or siblings. Thus we learn a lesson from both the advantages and disadvantages of living with
parents and siblings.
