Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

The term “Korean drama” or simply “K-Drama” refers to

television shows produced in south Korea. These shows

have gained popularity not just in korea but also

internationally, Enabling K-drama fans more able to watch

them or streaming services like Netflix and other online

platforms. The popularity of K – dramas have been

inspiring lot of people because of their undeniably

unique cultures. Indeed, nowadays, Korean culture became

one of the cultures accepted by the majority especially

the students of today’s generation. K- dramas

successfully played a huge effect on peoples live, it

created such influence not just on someone’s behavior,

eating habits and preferences, style and fashion but also

to many more things. The enormous and wonderful support

of avid Korean dramas received was astounding.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The general objective of the study is to determine the

effect of Korean dramas on student’s attitude towards

fashion, style and food references among senior high

school students at Pacac Grande National High School for

the school year 2022-2023.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following

questions.

1. What is the profile of students in terms of?

2. What is the significant out turn of Korean dramas to

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study will be limited on determining the

effects of Korean drama addiction towards student’s

attitude towards fashion and style and food preferences

of students. The sources of the data will be limited to

the SHS students of Pacac Grande National High School,

Pacac Grande Amulung Cagayan during the school year 2022-

2023.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The present educational system is contented with the

challenge of quality education in different aspects. In

today's generation lot of innovative platforms were developed

nowadays, which somehow influences student’s performances and

attitudes. With the advent of Korean dramas, most people

recognized how these movies affected the fashion and style and

food references of students.

The results of this study will specifically beneficial the

following:

Teachers- The recommendation of the study can serve as a basis

and eye opener for them to deal with the attitudes of the

students. This study could enlighten them to improve their

instruction to motivate, inspire and engage their students in

teaching learning process.

Students- The result of the study will ultimately benefit them

because they will be aware how Korean dramas influences them

and given opportunities to develop themselves as individuals.

Future researchers- The result of the study can be used a

reference for future researchers who wish to conduct similar

research

DEFINITION OF TERMS

To have a common and better understanding of the


terms used in this study, the following are hereby
defined operationally.

Age- the length of time that a person has lived or existed

Attitude – a settled way of thinking of feeling about


something or someone

Fashion – applies to any way of designing, behaving, or


performing that is favored at any time or place.

Food preferences – are the evaluative attitudes that


people express towards foods.

Korean Drama – dramatic televisions series produced in


south Korea.

Sex- refers either of the two categories (Male or female)

Senior High Student –refers to the grades 11 and 12


students of Pacac Grande National High School.

Strand – the discipline within the learning area

Style – A distinctive appearance of a person

Chapter II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter presents different materials relevant in the

pursuit of the study. The researchers cited different

related literatures, findings, and conclusion of related

studies.

The south Korean tv networks started routinely showing

dramas in the early 1960's. Most dramas during the period

aimed to inform the military regime. Additionally, Korean

tv dramas started to gain popularity as a kind of family

entertainment. Later that year the variety of Korea in

the 1980's. In effort to appeal to younger viewers as the

number of dramas expanded, Korean television networks

started airing popular dramas that focused on the lives

and love.

Korean culture is one of the most popular cultures in

Indonesia. This phenomenon is called the Korean wave or

Hullyu as specific impact of Korean drama. Korean dramas

popularity raises a sense of addiction to Indonesian

audiences, especially teenage Korean fans who still tend

to have easily influenced characteristics and imitate

their role models. This study aims to determine the

effect of k-drama viewing addiction on adolescent

imitation behavior. In this study there are two

variables: The variable watching addiction and the

variable imitation behavior using cultivation theory and

social learning. The research approach is quantitative

with the survey method.

Chapter II

RESEARCH DESIGN

The study will utilize the descriptive correlational


research design. This designed will be used since the
study deals with the student’s attitude towards fashion
and style and food preferences of the respondents.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

In gathering the data needed in the study, the researcher


will make use of questionnaire. The questionnaire is
standardized which consist of two parts. Part 1 will be
the information on the profile of the respondents as to
their age, sex and strand while part two will be the data
that recalls the acceptability of hands-on experiences of
the SHS students of Pacac Grande National High School.

SAMPLE AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The research method that the researchers will use


stratified random sampling technique using Slovin’s
formula in getting the number of participants. The study
consists of 168 SHS students from the 8 sections of the
SHS Department of Pacac Grande National High School for
the school year 2022-2023.

DATA COLLECTION

The researcher will undertake the following procedures to


gather the data pertinent to the study.

First, the researchers will seek a letter of permission


from the principal of the school and advisers of the
participants to conduct the study.

Second, the researchers will ask permission from the


participants and an informed consent will be given to
them for the conduct of the study.

Third, the researchers will float the questionnaires to


the participants.

Lastly, the data will be gathered from the answered


questionnaires and will be checked, classified,
tabulated, and analyzed

To analyze the data obtained in the questionnaire, the
following statistical tools will be used.

Frequency and percentage will be used to describe the


profile of respondents in terms of age, sex, and strand.

Mean will also be used to determine the student’s


attitude towards fashion and style and food preferences
in Korean dramas.

To further interpret the attitude of the respondents, the


following scale will be used.

Qualitative interpretation:

4 - Agree

3 - Undecided

2 - Disagree
