Grade 3 Science Lesson on Light Interaction

This document contains a detailed lesson plan for a science class on light and sound, heat, and electricity for 5th grade students. The lesson plan objectives are for students to understand how different objects interact with light and sound, heat, and electricity. The learning activities include a review of conductors and insulators, followed by an activity where students draw happy or sad faces to indicate whether light-related statements are correct or not. The lesson then presents examples of how light interacts differently with various materials through refraction and reflection.

the new lesson Let us pray, Vanessa please lead the prayer.
Thank you God for this another day .
Help us to do our best in the activy that we going
to do. Protect us always and our family.
May I remember that you live in me and others
too. I will try to share your love and grow with
you today . Amen!

Good Morning class.

Good morning ma’am
Please be seated.

Who is the absent today?

None ma’am

I am glad that all of you are present for today.

Please be reminded always of the following

health protocols:
 Always wear your face mask
 Practice social distancing
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth
and face
 Don’t share personal items with friends
 Always keep our room neat and clean

Let’s review our previous lesson.

When we say conductor, what is it?

It is any materials that allow electric current to
pass through.
Give some example of conductor.
Aluminum
Copper
Gold
Very good.
How about insulator?
Insulators are materials that do not transmit heat
and electricity

statement. Draw a happy face if the statement
is correct and sad face if it is not. Write your
answer on the space provided before each
number.

_____1. The side mirror of a motor vehicle

reflects light to help the driver see behind and side
areas of the vehicle.
_____2. Someone wearing black or dark-colored
shirt will find that he is cooler than someone
wearing a white t-shirt.
_____3. Spotslights are used to highlight a
performer on stage because they have reflectors
that are used to direct light to only one direction.
_____4. Stones and wood are examples of
transparent materials that transmit some light.
_____5. Sunglasses are designed to transmit
visible light and absorb ultraviolet light,
protecting your eyes.

I will give you 10 minutes to answer.

(Pupils will start answering)
Are you all done?
Yes ma’am
Okay, let’s answer.
Who wants to answer number 1?

lesson What else?
It gives color and beauty in our lives.
Good job!
Lights interact differently with various materials.
The different interactions affect the way we use
materials.

Look at this table.

Please read the chart.
(Pupils will read the chart)
When we say, refraction it is the bonding of
light as it passes through a material is called
refraction.

What is this?
Glass with water and pencil ma’am
A pencil in a glass of water look beat because of
refraction.
Interaction of light with water commonly causes
of refraction.

Next is, reflection is the bouncing of light as it

strikes a surface is called reflection.

What is this?
Mirror ma’am
Very good!
Mirror and glass reflect light. We use the mirror
to check how we look when we prepare to start
our day.
When we hold the mirror to the light, there will
be a reflection.

Next, absorption happens when light is

absorbed as it hits the materials.
Black objects absorb all the light that hits its
surface. Color influence absorption. Light
colored objects absorb less light and heat. Dark
colored objects absorb more light and more heat.

Transmission it refers to the passing light

through a material.

A clear glass transmits all the light that passes

through it.

Now, let’s talk about types of materials and their

proper usage.

It is important to know the types of materials

classified in relation to their ability to block,
absorb or transmit light.

Please look at the chart in the board.

Opaque materials do not allow the light to pass

through them.

Just like this colored cups do not allow the light

Woods ma’am
to pass through them.

What materials do you think that light cannot

Walls ma’am
pass through them?

Very good!
What else?

Very good.
The best examples of opaque materials are
woods and concrete are examples of opaque
materials.

Next is, Translucent materials allow some light

to pass through them.

Just like this, the light pass through it but just a Sunglasses ma’am
little.

Give some example that you think are Tissue or paper ma’am
translucent materials.

Very good!
What else?

Excellent!

Transparent materials allow all the light to pass

through.

Just like this, the plastic cups transmit the light

through them. Glass window ma’am

concepts & will be the group 1, second row will be the group
practicing skill #2 2 and the third row will be the group 3. After
you finish your group activity, post it on the
board and go back to your proper seats. Choose a
representative that will present your work.

Did you understand class?

Yes ma’am

List down objects found at home that are opaque,
translucent and transparent. Relate the ability of
the materials to block the light, absorb the light or
allows a little light.
