DAILY LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 8 SCIENCE
Topic/Title Unit 4 Module 2 Interactions: Food Chain
Grade Level Grade 8
Time Allotment 60 minutes
Learning Competencies and Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
A. Identify the organisms that compose the food chain.
B. Describe the transfer of energy in every tropic level in a food pyramid.
C. Compute the amount of energy for each trophic level.
Elicit ( 5 minutes) Materials
1. What are the living things that you see on
your way to school?
2. Identify the producers, consumers and
decomposers.
Engage (5 minutes)
• Example picture of a food chain
• What animals did you see in the picture?
• Construct a food chain? Out of the given
picture.
• Identify which is the producer, the consumer
and the decomposer.
• What is the role of each organism in each
trophic level?
Explore (10 minutes)
1. Outdoor activity: Let the students construct a
food pyramid of the organisms that they may find in
the school premises.
A. Group the students into five and assign area
for each group.
B. Assign an area for each group
2. Compute for the amount of energy in each
trophic level.
3. Identify the organism that has the most energy
and the one that gets the least energy.
Explain (15 mins)
• Each group will present their outputs in
front and discuss their answer on the
following questions below:
QUESTIONS:
1. What groups of organisms are considered as
producers?
2. In your own words, describe a food chain.
3. . Compute for the amount of energy in each
trophic level.
4. Identify each organism has the highest
energy, which one gets the least energy?
Elaborate (10 mins)
2. The teacher will explain further how to
compute for the energy in each trophic level
3. The teacher will explain now the importance
of eating vegetables vs. meat.
4. The teacher will ask the students of their
generalization of the topic and their insights.
Evaluate(10 mins)
1. Identify the organisms given as producers,
1st order consumer, 2nd order consumer, 3rd
order consumer and 4th order consumer
2. Construct a biomass pyramid from the food
chain in the picture.
3. As a student you need to have more energy
to be able to perform the many activity that
you have in school. What should you eat in
order to have the most energy?
4. Make a simple slogan or poster on how to
take good care of our environment. (here
the teacher will present a rubric)
Extend
1. With the mining company found in the town
of Aroroy, How will it affect the producers in
the first trophic level, what about the first
Order consumer, second, third and so on
and so forth.
2. Research on the harmful effects of cyanide
and mercury.
3. Make a project proposal and ask a permit to
your Barangay Captain for you to be allowed
to have a tree planting in your Barangay.
