Teaching as One’s Vision, Vocation, Mission and Profession

1. What is Teaching to you? 

Answer:

I was inspired to be a teacher not only because I think that being one means to hold so much
power and relevance, but because I know that I am meant for this in spite of also realizing all the
prejudices and stereotypes surrounding this profession. I know that being in the line of education
is such a great responsibility. I know that for sure as a student who greatly values learning. I am
also aware that teaching is a wonderful if not the best platform to create something for the world.
I was born a dreamer. I dreamt to contribute something that would make me memorable and at
some point, become someone’s lighted path. For me, teaching is to create, to mold and to bring
about something that will give such enormous impact to the world. For my young and present
self, teaching is better than anything else as I get to be someone’s beginning, starting point and
unforgettable memory. 

I believed in the capabilities of knowledge. Being informed is being enlightened. Teaching is to

"Teaching is a mission not a source of income." 

Answer: 

Personally, I don’t actually grasp the idea that a teacher will be able to properly exercise his/her
cause without a deeper meaning. Educators who usually do their profession only because of the
purpose to accumulate money probably think that this is just their job, with no other definite
meaning. Merely something they have to do in able to earn. In contrast, I believed in the notion
that you have to love and value both the responsibility, the burden and honor of being a teacher.
Being a teacher is a lifetime calling. You have to live with its purpose and you have to have this

powerful force to execute its pursuits. For me, a real motivated educational ally wholeheartedly
considers the fact that the real and immeasurable income they could ever receive is the learning
and development of the students. The greatest reward that teaching can pay off is not money but
fulfillment. 

"Teaching is gratifying but with meager compensation not commensurate with all
hard work done..."

Answer: 

It is real and evident that in our country, the teaching profession is severely undervalued.
Although teachers and other educational personnels act above the needs and the roles of their
profession in the community, they still receive a lack of commemoration, merits and benefits that
they actually deserve. The chaotic and dirty educational sector is to be blamed for being the
biggest factor why teachers are not to fully experience their due compensations. Teaching will be
much more gratifying if it is not only the needs of the learners that are reached and given, but
also the professional growth of the educators. I strongly believe that all of our teachers will be
more encouraged to take on challenges and impart learning to the students if their welfare and
development will be prioritized and compensated proportional to their hard work. Afterall, they
are not automated machines, they are humans with willful and determined hearts. 

" Teaching is a challenging job but a source of stress and mental exhaustion." 

Answer: 

Being a teacher is not only rainbows and sunshine. Teaching might be a very fulfilling job, but it
is also draining at the same time. It brings about pressure and intimidation. Dealing with multiple
minds with different perceptions and beliefs in a four-walled classroom can be a handful.
Facilitation is never easy as well. With proper use of experience and well-practiced patience, a
quality learning experience is delivered. But like every human being, teachers also know how to
get tired physically and mentally. They don’t have bodies made of steel. That is why teaching is
such a challenge. It takes so much of one’s personal life. For that, it is such an honor for students
to always have their teachers one call away. Words might be able to express gratitude over their
heroism, but I am sure that our educators would appreciate more our dedication to be morally,
spiritually and personally upright.

3. Explain in your own words “why teaching is a vocation”.

It is important that everyone must be aware that teaching is a priority and a number one choice. It
can’t be the least relevant and most importantly, it can never be an option just because a person
thinks it's mediocre. People have always associated education with the Tagalog word ‘lang’.
Teaching is a profession often ridiculed and belittled. It is evident inside comments like “Educ
yan kaya madali lang” and “Ay! Teacher ka lang?”. For many, it will stay just a mere calling
when in fact it is the noblest profession of them all and not just a small thing to be undervalued
and disrespected. You have to be called to become a teacher. You have to have a deep reason to
actually consider this path. If one is undeserving and doesn’t have the heart to enter a lifetime
responsibility, he/she can never like this platform and can never succeed in it. That would make
teaching a vocation that only those who possess an unbreakable will, strong attachment to
progress and brave soul can ever pursue.

4. What makes teaching a mission? 

Answer:

Teaching is a mission because the one who partakes to influence and utilize education has goals
to achieve. Education has a lot to offer to the world. It can make everything happen, proving the
point that it is indispensable. If something is to offer never ending opportunities and betterment
for the people and the community whatever might be the generation, it comes with a constant
agenda to provide. The continuous capabilities of education to bring forth better quality of life to
the learners pushes educators to actually use that to their benefit to achieve their professional
goals as well. For that, as long as education and the people who utilize it have a vision to
improve and make learning beneficial for the world to behold, effective teaching will remain a
mission to achieve. 

5. Do you have the calling to become a teacher? Why so?

Answer: 

Based on my perseverance to actually go after this profession and utilize the most of it to
advocate my cause to be someone’s lighted path or at least be memorable, I would say yes. I do
have a calling to be a teacher. Even in my younger years, I know that I would be someone to
stand in front of people to teach, speak and share. The idea and vision that a crowd is to consider
your experiences, be inspired because of you and would look up to your knowledge enticed my
soul to be a teacher. It doesn’t help that I also came from a long line of educators. So maybe, part
of my reasons to become one is because of my family too. Nevertheless, I admire teaching and
perceive it as a priority. For me, being the medium of knowledge and greatness is such a magical
job. I know that I’m called to teach as I understand its importance, aspire to deliver its purposes
and am willing to live with its struggles and challenges. The fact that I know what I am entering,
what to expect, lose and gain is total acceptance. Most importantly, I know for sure that I am for
this path as my heart would be completely shattered if I won’t get to be the teacher that I’ve
always dreamed of and that my dreams will never turn into reality.
