Robotics Lab Safety Guidelines General Lab Safety Rules: 1. No food or drinks are allowed in the Lab.

Never taste any substance or object without permission from your teacher. 2. Keep work areas neat and organized, and clean up all work areas after the lab. Place all waste materials in their proper receptacle for disposal. 3. No playing or running, and no throwing of objects of any kind in lab areas. Be alert and attentive at all times. 4. Dont wear loose or baggy clothing or jewelry when using tools. Tie back dangling, long hair when using tools. 5. Wear eye protection, and gloves when necessary. 6. Students should follow the instructions on the lab manual whenever possible. Students are also encouraged to be creative and come up their own ways to achieve the experiment's goal. However, if there is any change to the experimental apparatus or the way of conducting the experiment, for safety reason, students should get the instructor's permission before you try something original. 7. Before using any tool, make sure to have the proper training and permission from your instructor. 8. Use equipment with care for the purpose for which it is intended. 9. Never touch a spinning or rotating tool. 10. Do not converse with other students while operating machines or using tools. 11. Ask the instructor to check all electrical circuits and make sure all switches are in the off position before you turn on the power. 12. When working with electrical circuits, be sure that the current is turned off before making adjustments in the circuit. 13. Do not connect the terminals of a battery or power supply to each other with a wire. Such a wire will become dangerously hot. 14. Read the lab instructions carefully and make sure you know what you're about to do before starting to do it. 15. Make sure you're in good communication with your partner so that you both know at all times what each other is doing. 16. Only one person is to work on a machine at a time. 17. Never use a hand tool when others are standing within your safety zone. 18. When using portable power tools, always secure the work to a bench or table. 19. Let the instructor know if you have any physical problem that might interfere with the normal method of working. 20. If any equipment is operating improperly, stop using it and report the problem to the instructor immediately. 21. Know the location of the nearest fire extinguisher and first aid kit. 22. In the event of a fire or on hearing the fire bell, leave calmly by the stairs and assemble outside the building. 23. You must stop work immediately when signaled by the instructor or the class superintendent. 24. Report all accidents, injuries or breakage to the instructor immediately. 25. There are special safety rules for each tool, especially power tools. If you are unsure, don't use the tool. See the instructor and review the relevant safety rules.
