Speak about your activities after school
If you play sports, talk about:
- what sports you do/play this sport: play [volleyball], go [jogging], do [karate], etc);
- how often you do/play this sport: once/twice/three times a week, every week, etc.;
- when you took up [volleyball/jogging/karate] or how long you have done/played this sport: for
[ages/a year, etc.]/since [2019/last year/I was twelve years old, etc.];
- whether you do/play this sport outdoors or indoors;
- whether you do/play this sport on your own or in a team;
- what sports equipment you need to use: a stick, a swimsuit, a pair of goggles, etc.;
- whether you have (already) taken part or would like to take part in a competition;
- whether you would practise more if you had more spare time.
If you study music, talk out:
- what instrument you play (or if you sing);
- how often you play an instrument (or sing): once/twice/three times a week, every week, etc.;
- when you started playing that instrument (or singing) or how long you have studied: for [ages/a
year, etc.]/since [2019/last year/I was twelve years old, etc.];
- whether you study/play the instrument (or sing) on your own, in one-to-one/group lessons, in a
music school, in a band, etc.;
- what type of music you prefer playing/singing;
- whether you have ever composed music/songs or would like to become a composer/songwriter;
- whether you would perform in public if you could.
If you are responsible for any jobs at home, talk about:
- what jobs you have to do and which ones you don’t need to do: do the washing-up, go shopping*,
take out the trash bag, make your bed/meals, etc.;
(*) If you go shopping for food, say where you buy it: greengrocer’s, baker’s, butcher’s, etc.;
- how often you carry out this job: once/twice/three times a week, every week, etc.;
- which house chores you prefer/enjoy doing and which ones you can’t stand/avoid doing;
- what you would do if you didn’t have to do the jobs you hate doing;
- whether you think you are obsessed with/bored with/good at doing a certain job in your house.
If you use social media, talk about:
- how often you use social media: once/twice/three times a week, every day, etc.;
- whether you use social networking sites to download music, follow events/somebody, keep in
touch with friends/family, etc.;
- how much time you spend surfing the internet;
- whether you go online from your mobile phone, a laptop, or a desktop computer;
- what you would do if you didn’t/couldn’t use social media;
- whether you think you are obsessed with/care too much about/live without social media.

Speak about your ideal/dream job
- When you graduate from secondary school, are you going to carry on studying, take a gap year,
or get a job?
- When you graduate from university, would you like to carry on studying, take a gap year, or get a
job?
- What you would like to work as? What personality traits do you think you should have to work
as a(n) [doctor]? Are you an indoors person or an outdoors person? Would prefer to work with
people, animals, or machines?
- What type of workplace would you like to work for? (e.g. a shop that sells…, a company where
people can buy…) Would you work for yourself?
Speak about what teenagers are like
- What is it like to be a teenager these days?
- Is there a difference between teenage girls and teenage boys?
- What is the best part of being a teenager? What do most teenagers like doing (together)? Who do
people your age get on better with? What do you do to have fun? Where?
- What is the hardest part of being a teenager? Can teenagers suffer from stress? Do all teenagers
get into trouble easily/behave badly? Do all teenagers get on badly with parents and teachers?
Are all teenagers irresponsible/uncooperative/lazy, etc.? Do all teenagers feel
grumpy/miserable/tired, etc. all the time? What do most teenagers hate doing?
Speak about your favourite room in the house
- What does this room look like?
- How much time do you spend in this room? What do you do there? How do you feel in this room?
- Do you have to share this room with anyone else?
- Do you keep your most treasured possessions there?
- What furniture/decoration is there? What is your favourite item of furniture?
- What makes it your favourite spot in the house?
Speak about your school day
- What school year are you in? How many more years to go do you have?
- Do you have demanding teachers/subjects/timetables?
- How many subjects do you have to do? What is your favourite subject? Is it
interesting/easy/useful, etc.? Why (not)?
- Do exams make you feel stressed? What do you have to do to get good marks? How do you get rid
of stress?
- How many hours a day do you spend studying/doing homework? Do you have enough time to do
other activities after school? What activities are you involved in?
- What is the best/worst thing about going to secondary school?

Speak about the last film you saw
- What is the name of the last film you watched on Netflix/at the cinema/at home?
- What sort of film is it? Where and when is it set?
