Preparation of Indicator Solutions

To prepare a phenolphthalein indicator solution, dissolve 0.5g of phenolphthalein powder in a 50/50 solution of 50mL ethanol and 50mL water. For a methyl orange solution, dissolve 0.05g of methyl orange in 100mL of water and filter any undissolved solids. A 1% potassium permanganate solution can be made by dissolving 1g of solid potassium permanganate in 100mL of water.

Sub: Making process of different solution

1. Weigh out 0.5g of phenolphthalein.
2. Prepare 50% ethyl alcohol solution contained of 50mL ethonal and 50mL water.
3. Now, dissolve the phenolphthalein in the 50% ethyl alcohol solution.
4. Store in dropper mechanism for use.

2. Preparation of Methyl orange solution.


Dissolve 0.05 g of methyl orange in 100 mL of water. If any thing remains
undissolved, filter the solution and store it in indicator solution bottle with dropper. It
is recommended to use 2–3 drops of this solution for a typical titration. The strength
of the solution is 0.05% (w/v).

3. How make Potassium permanganate solution from solid potassium


permanganate:
Potassium permanganate is highly soluble in water.

If you like to make a 1% solution: just measure 1 gram potassium permanganate and
pour it in 100 ml water in a flask ( or a suitable container). Just rotate to dissolve and
you have your 1% solution.
