Method and Value Engineering in Garment Production

This document discusses using method and value engineering techniques to improve productivity in a garment factory sewing line. The sewing phase consists of multiple workstations where specific tasks are performed in sequence. Uneven workloads between stations can increase work in process and wait times. The document aims to use method study and work measurement to decrease delay times and improve productivity by better balancing tasks between workstations. It also aims to arrange operational activities using flow process charts to graphically represent the sequence of operations, inspections, transport, delays, and storage in the production process.

Method and Value Engineering [Year]

Introduction
As we have seen in the garment company. The production process of
GARMENT is separated into four phase. Designing or clothing pattern
generation, fabric cutting, sewing and ironing or packing. The most
critical phase is sewing phase. As it general involves a great number of
operation. The sewing line consists of a set of workstation in which a
specific task in predefined sequence is processed. Tasks are assigned to
operators depending on the constraint of different labor skill levels.
Shop floor managers are concerned with the balance of the lines by
assigning the task to the workstation as equal as possible. Unequal
workload among workstation of a sewing line will be lead to the
increase of both work in process and waiting time. In practice the
production controllers use their experience to assign tasks to
workstation based on task sequence, labor level and the standard time
required to complete each task. As the result, the line balance
performance cannot be guaranteed from one worker to another with
difference work experience. Manufacturing a product always difference
types of sewing machines and yarn colors, it difficult to assign a work to
perform operation on just a single machine. So our target using method
study and work measurement how to decrease the delay time and
improving productivity. In addition to that how to arrange the
operational activity by flow process charts. Flow process chart is a
graphical representation of the operational sequence (operation,
inspection, transport, delay and storage) taking place in a process.
