Important Lesson
Learned
On the previous work immersion, I learned
many things that I can surely bring and use
someday. One of those things is that, in spite
of the many tasks, you have to continue and
finish those because it’s your duty that you
need to follow and do. I also learned how to
socialize with other people especially with
customers. Even though every customer has
a different attitude that hard to deal with,
you need to stay positive and smile all the
time because as saying goes by “Customers
are always right” and as an employee, you
have to obey that rule. Being well-behaved
is also one thing that I learned because
when you look at customers you should be
clean and presentable. Another thing I
learned is being a fast worker because there
are tasks that have time and need to be
completed at a given time.

For every mistake, there is a life-lesson that

you will get. There are also a lot of things I
did not do well when I was a student-
trainee. But every mistake, this becomes an
instrument for me so that later on I can do
all my tasks right and well. All these mis-
takes serve as an inspiration to me to be-
come a better person every day and do bet-
ter to avoid future mistakes.

If I were the Boss

As a grade 12 student of the ABM strand, I
also aspire to be the boss in my own compa-
ny or even a manager in a fast food chain or
restaurant someday. If I were the boss and
have the chance, I would gladly accept the
position and be responsible for it. I would
not overlook some circumstances and will
make sure that I remain fair & honest. I
would also be strict but not to the point
where my employees will hate me. Unlike
any other bosses, I’d stay down to earth and
treat my workplace as my home and my
employees as my family. I will create a posi-
tive environment in my workplace. If an
employee makes a mistake, I’d listen to
her/him first before jumping to conse-
quences. I will give her the chance to use
her freedom of speech, that way, I will not
be perceived as selfish and inconsiderate. I
will not be that kind and not that cruel, I
will be the boss that is always in between. I
will give chances to those who deserve it.

From the past work immersion at Gastro

Publiko, we’ve met the manager and I can
tell that he’s humble but also fierce. Humble
in a way that he knows how to communi-
cate with the other employees and with us,
too. Every time we see him, there wasn’t a
time where he’d forget to ask us if we have
eaten or how are we doing at the OJT. He
always reminds the seniors to give us the
tasks that we can handle so there wouldn’t
be any trouble. On the other hand, he’s
fierce because he’s got the strict vibes. He
has his rules like, employees should not
wear accessories while on the kitchen, but
of course, this rule is very common and un-
derstandable to begin with. He has the traits
that a manager should have. I can say that
he doesn’t treat himself a superior just be-
cause he’s the manager. He jokes around
and laughs at jokes, a thing that’s really ad-
mirable.

Someday, if given the chance and opportu-

nity to be a manager, I wouldn’t have sec-
ond thoughts to act and be an influential
leader. As the saying goes, “With great pow-
er, comes great responsibility”, if I were to
be a boss then I would always do what is
right and again, be responsible.

Featured Workplace #2:

Kumon Center
The Kumon Center is placed at J.P. Laurel
Highway, Mataas na Lupa, Lipa, Batangas.
This is an institution that goes far beyond
tutoring. It is a structured, proven self-
learning program that gives a child critical
thinking skills and mindset to learn new
materials independently. Because of this,
children learn more about Mathematics and
English. These children were really amazing
because they always ace the exams. Every
session ends for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Kumon Center has a narrow space yet it is

still comfortable because it is clean and is
air-conditioned. The teachers are kind,
hardworking and most especially, have a
long patience for the kids. Particularly,
Teacher Paula whom I got close with. I al-
ways help her with checking and recording
the test papers. Sometimes, I tell stories to
the kids after teaching. I’m really amazed by
how Teacher Paula handles the kids. She al-
ways makes sure that they’re listening to
her and that they will learn. Seeing this
made me realized that being a teacher is re-
ally difficult, you have to make the children
listen to you, do something just to get their
attention and of course, the patience.

I’m really thankful that I became a part of

Kumon Center, although I was just a student
trainee. The job may really be a tiring one
but tiredness fades when you help the
teachers. Kumon Center is an instrument
for a deeper and wider knowledge and an
instrument that helps develop certain skills
of the children that they can surely use for
their future endeavour.

What is Most Difficult

at Work
Working is never easy. You need to have
perseverance, diligence, love for your work
and most importantly, the knowledge of in-
teraction. Although you are having a hard
time, you still need to do your job correctly
because this is your duty as an employee.

Having been able to participate in the past

work immersion at Gastro Publiko, I could
say that the most difficult part of the job
was not knowing how to socialize with the
employees, especially with the customers.
Since I was a child, I have always been very
shy. I did not know how to talk to other peo-
ple particularly to those I do not know
much. At first, I really had a hard time be-
cause I did not know how to approach
them. Whenever I have some questions to
raise, I would need a companion but then, I
have realized that I should not be shy and
must not be. I remember my group mate
telling me, “Pam, hindi masamang mag-
tanong”, which opened my mind that, yes,
there is nothing wrong with asking ques-
tions for the things you do not know about
to avoid future mistakes. Hence, I tried talk-
ing to the seniors of Gastro Publiko. It was
fun to talk to them that it felt like I am just
talking to a friend. If there is something I
get confused with the work I was assigned
to, I would approach them but this time,
without a companion. Little by little, I
learned the concept of interaction. I felt so
grateful that I am slowly getting out of my
shell. I was and still developing this weak-
ness of mine and I will surely treasure this
experience who have taught me to break
free from the bars of shyness. I can and will
definitely use this in every day life and for
my future endeavors

First Day at Work

It was my first day of immersion. I was ex-
cited yet nervous because this was the first
time I’ve done such. Originally, my schedule
was from April 9 to April 21 but then I was
sick so my sister had to ask Ms. Jessica to
move my schedule from April 16 to April 29.
Meaning to say, Gastro Publiko is where I
had my first immersion then the next would
be in Kumon Center.

I came to work in my black-shirt-and-pants

uniform, the same as the employees who
work there. We greeted the people there
with ‘good morning’ and they did the same
thing. The employees were very hospitable.
They were so kind even though it was the
first time we met. They distributed the six of
us to two sections: bar and kitchen or din-
ing. We met Kuya Jec, the head of the dining
and he taught us the basic things that need-
ed to be done when you’re assigned in the
dining. We arranged the chairs, cleaned the
tables and put table tissues. Customers were
not that many during the morning so we
had little things to do like welcoming them
and giving them glasses of water while wait-
ing for their orders. In the kitchen, it was
really hot but it doesn’t matter because the
cooks were very humorous especially Kuya
Jerome and Kuya Mike. The customers start-
ed to arrive in the afternoon. So, the crew
were very busy and so are we. We helped
washing the plates and to be honest, it was
difficult to wash those because they were
big, heavy and very fragile. We were given
food so even though we were tired, our
tummies were full. Around 5 pm, I was as-
signed in the bar section because one of my
groupmates went out early. I enjoyed my
assignment there because there were many
customers and the captain let us serve and
help made the drinks.

Through the course of the first day, I

learned how to welcome guests, serve food,
arrange the chairs, clean the tables and
wash plates. Also, I have realized that it is
quite easy to make drinks as long as you
know the measurements. It was indeed tir-
ing, but it was a great feeling especially
when you see the customers satisfied with
your service and when you hear the two
simple words of appreciation “Thank you“.

Featured Employee:
Kuya Jhay-R
I have met many employees with different
personalities during my work immersion at
Gastro Publiko and Kumon. Each and every-
one of them have specific traits that you will
be amazed of. One of these is being respon-
sible for what they do; their job, fast work-
ers and delicate ones. Not only they can do
their work well but also when interacting or
assisting customers and co-employees. But,
from all the people that I’ve met, only one
has got me really amazed and that is Kuya
Jhay-ar

Kuya Jhay-ar Cosico is one of the employees

at Gastro Publiko. He is a captain in the bar
section. When I first met him, I already
sensed the kindness in him. When I was as-
signed in the bar, I got the chance to talk to
him and get to know more of him. He really
knows what he’s doing; that’s why he can
teach us in connection with making drinks
and shakes. He knows how to get along with
the other staff. He also lets us work al-
though we’re slow. There was a time where-
as the orders were coming fast, he let me
made the shakes. I was slow, I knew that but
instead of pressuring me, he said that it’s
okay because I’m still new to that. He be-
lieved in me and that’s one of the happiest
feeling a person could ever have.

Featured Workplace #1:

Gastro Publiko
My work immersion experience is like a
roller coaster ride, you’ll feel tiredness yet
at the same time it was great and fun. I love
both of the companies ,the Kumon Center
and the Gastro Publiko, I worked with. But
if I have to choose where to work more, I
would choose the Gastro Publiko.

Gastro Publiko is a resto bar in Lipa City,

Batangas which have their own unique way
of selling their dishes and attracting resto-
bar. I quite love their dishes because it is
mostly Filipino foods that every Filipinos
like. They attract the customers to order
these dishes due to their names which are
based on funny Filipino puns. For example
is the laing (dried taro with coconut milk)
which is named “Ang Laing mong reklamo”.
They also have pork lomo or pata and tofu
as part of the menu, they also have a funny
pun names such as “Kanya Kanyang Pata”
and “Anak ng Tokwa”. Their prices aren’t
that expensive and just based on the aroma
and plating of the food, you can say that it is
worth it to order. Although the place is a bit
small it is still a comfortable place to dine
in. Besides the food’s name I also like it due
to hospitality of the employees there. They
showed us kindness and helped us in our
works.

Everyone in Gastro is hardworking, even

though the employees are tired, they contin-
ue their jobs with a smile on their. It shows
the reality that money is hard to earn, not
by just seeing others working but I also ex-
perienced how hard it is to work, mopping
and dishwashing are just two of those hard
works I’ve done. And all of these helped me
to grow as a person. My experiences in Gas-
tro Republiko creates a new me, a new part
of me who will continue to work hard and
will always the experiences and things I
learned to become a better person someday.

Most Important
Attitude in the
Workplace
As a student who experienced working at
two companies: Gastro Publiko and Kumon
Center, I believe that the most important at-
titude that one must have in the workplace
is a “positive attitude”. Having a good, posi-
tive attitude along with positive thinking at
work will reflect on what we do and make
us a more productive employee. It can help
us achieve the goals set by the owner or
company and it creates better relationships,
helping everyone enjoy the job they do.

Being optimistic helps me a lot in my work

immersion. Because of being optimistic and
always positive, I did my jobs well and satis-
fying to the companies. Yes, it is hard and
tiring but I know that at the end of the day
that this was a great experience for me to
learn and nurture myself. One of my experi-
ences was when I was in Gastro, a resto bar,
we had so many things to do especially
when there were so many customers, but
despite being tired I stayed positive and
served our guest with a smile and with an
optimistic vibe. While when I was in Kumon
Center I also experienced the same tiring
work like checking papers of the kids. Some-
times I also teach them some basics but
what I love is when I taught them stories in
our storytelling sessions. Even though it
hurts a lot on the back sitting all day long
while doing lots of works, I still kept think-
ing that it will all end with a good lesson for
me, a good experience, while helping others
and, also helping myself learn and grow.

Being a positive thinker or being optimistic

helps and influences others to do the same
and do their jobs very well. I realized that
positivity defeats negativity, and it makes
people more productive and lovely.

The Value of Hardwork

In life, nothing worth having comes easy.
This means that without hard work and
dedication, success is not possible. Everyone
must experience the difficulties life presents
and work to defeat these difficulties for us
to become the best version of ourselves. We,
people, should know that in life, consistent
hard works is the key to success. Success is
something that every individual wants in
life but in order to be successful, one must
work hard and put some effort in every-
thing that he do. With hardwork and effort,
you can achieve anything.

On the past on the job training, I’ve experi-

enced how to work fully devoted and take
everything seriously. I also learned that
earning money isn’t easy. You have to work
hard for it. If it’s hard for you to study, how
much more if you’re already working. I
mentioned this because my naked eyes have
seen how the employees of the Gastro Pub-
liko suffered from this. I have experienced
this that’s why I said this. All day I experi-
ence sweating and backache. In Gastro Pub-
liko, I’ve fully understand and realized that
there’s a great value in hard work. It gives
us a purpose, helps us to overcome laziness,
doubts, and fear of failure and as a student,
we must know the importance of hardcore
working before someday, we will do this as
well.
