Our topic for today is all about a poem entitled
“Footprints in the sand”
But before we go deeper with our topic, let us have first
our learning objectives. Please read everyone.

This time let us know and explore more about the poem
entitled “Footprints in the sand”
But before that, let me group you first.
The students are head counting 1 -3.
Before you proceed to your respective groups, please
allow me to present to you first our incentive chart so
that you will know how are you going to be rated as a
group.
I have here 3 homes, 1 is for group 1, the other 1 is for
group 2, and the last one is for group 3. In each home,
there is a mother and a father, and as you can see, the
children above are not on their respective homes.
Therefore, you have to help them come back home. All
you have to do is to do all the task that I will be giving
you so you can help a child to go home. Yes maam
At the end of this lesson, the group who will get most
number of children will win.

Before we go deeper with our topic, let me ask you one

This time, with your group, I want you to read the poem
silently. But before that, let us unlock first the difficult
terms so that you will be able to understand the poem
clearly.
Unlocking of Terms:
Dream – a series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring
during sleep.
Footprints- an impression of the foot on a surface.
Scene – the place of an occurrence or action.
Sand –a yellowish-gray color in the seaside.
Flashed –appeared suddenly
Dark sky – a sky transmitting only a portion of light.
Whisper – speaking softly with little or no vibration of the vocal
cords, especially to avoid being overheard.
Now, you may start reading the poem silently.
FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of
my life,
There was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed you the most, You would
leave me.”
He whispered,” My precious child, I love you and would never leave
you
Never, ever, during your trials and testing.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
This time, let’s try to see what you’ve got upon reading
the poem by your own. Let’s have an activity.
ACTIVITY 1: The running question
Direction: I prepare questionnaires for the groups and you are
given 2 minutes to answer each question. After the given time
you have to pass the next questionnaire to the next group until
the last group can be able to answer the last question. Use the
marker and Manila paper in answering each question.
Here are the questions:
1. Who were in the dream?
2. What were they doing? Where?
3. What did the speaker see?
4. What did he noticed that made him confused? Why?
5. What was the revelation at the end of the poem?

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

Three lessons from the poem:
1. We will have Troubles in this World – Even when we have
absolute faith in God, we will all experience hardship and
sadness in this life. We will have our ups and downs, and
sometimes we become depressed, discontent and disconnected.
Even the richest people on earth have troubles of their own,
which their wealth cannot solve. Everyone goes through tough
times in their lives.
2. God is Always by Our Side – when we go through difficult
times, we feel God is no longer working in our lives. We
assume that he has ignored our cries for help and does not care
about us. We feel we are alone, and God is no longer walking
with us. However, we must understand that God is always with
us, even during times of trouble, illness, and struggles. He
always walks beside us taking care of our needs, and when the
going gets tough, He starts carrying us as a Father bears his son
or daughter (as referred in Deuteronomy 1:31)
3. We never have to Fear – Knowing that God is with us every
step of the way, we should not fear anything or anyone. If God
is by our side, no one can be against us (Romans 8:31). When
we face adversities, we must remember that God is our defense
and He will deliver us from any situation (Psalm 59:16, Psalm
34:17). We should remember that fear will take the joy out of
our lives, but trusting in God will bring peace and happiness in
our lives.
Application
This time, we will see how far you have understood about the
poem. Let’s have an activity.
ACTIVITY 2: Arrange Me!
Direction: Illustrate the events of the poem entitles “Footprints
in the sand” by Margaret Fishback Powers. Arrange the pictures
according to the right order or the sequence of events happening
in the poem.

through ups and downs in our lives. Sometimes God
walks besides us, and other times He must carry us.
