1.4 PROBLEMS ON DESIGN OF RECTANGULAR COMBINED RC FOOTING

Type I: Design a slab type combined rectangular RCfooting problems
1. Design of combined rectangular RC footing for two columns A and B, carrying loads
of 500 kN and 700 kN respectively.
Column A is 300 mmx 300 mm
Column B is 400 mm x 400 mm
Centre to centre spacing of the column is 3.4 m apart. Safe bearing capacity of soil
may be taken as 150 kN/m*. Use M20 grade concrete and Fe-415 grade steel. Draw
to a suitable scale :
(a) Sectional elevation
(6) Plan of bottom reinforcement
(c) Plan of top reinforcement
(d) CIC of combined footing
Solution:
Given data:
Column A is 300 mm x 300 mm, Axial load of columnA, P, = 500 kN
Column B is 400 mm x 400 mm, Axial load ofcolumn B, P.=
B
700 kN

Step 2: Projections of footing
The projectionsp, andp, should be such that C.G of footing coincides with the C.G ofco

(i.e. C.G of footing = C.G of column). The distance x of the C.G of column loads f
