Helping people in need through Graphic Design

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How can the advancement of technology graphic design positively impact the lives of people in need?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I am choosing this inquiry question because I have a very big interest in graphic design and media design.
I want to be able to impact the world positively with my work, so making infographics as a way of spreading
awareness is not only something that I like to do, but it helps other people.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

Ever since I was a kid, my family and I would go downtown on Christmas Eve and hand out food and
supplies to people in need. I have also taken Graphic design in Grade 9,10 and 12. My dad and I share an
interest in computer programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

My intended career area is Graphic design and marketing. I love being able to help others and I want to
continue doing that throughout my life, in a unique way that I can succeed in.

I am planning on using powerpoint, showing each step of my capstone journey. I will also print off my
infographics and bring them as a physical copy of my capstone, it will also be included in the powerpoint
too.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

I will design 3 infographics for organizations helping homeless people and people that are struggling. I will
create 3 fully original designs that will be available to print, and hopefully I can put them around our
community. I will investigate the power of design and the influence it can have on the world. Also, seeing
the impact of social media and why it isn’t being used positively.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

I will need a functioning computer that is able to handle Adobe programs. I will either use my laptop at
home, or work in the Graphic Design class in my spare time. I will need a lot of free time to be able to
brainstorm and finalize the design, such as layout, colours, slogans, pictures etc.

help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access

the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

I will either ask my current graphic design teacher for some advice and help on my capstone
[Link] I will get useful advice on how to improve my work to get to my full potential. My dad is
also able to help and provide insight on what I should improve on detail wise. My mother is able to help
with the marketing portion since she has her own home renovation business.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Some obstacles I might encounter are technical difficulties, such as my work not saving, not having
access to any computers, or not being able to print off my artwork. I also might not be able to work with
some organizations. I could very well encounter a “writers block” where I feel uninspired and am not
proud of my work.

that you feel should be included in your project proposal.
